Hi guys,
We discovered a great spot for Kitesurfing in Zanzibar Island- Uroa Beach. Shallow water is azure blue with an average temperature of 27ºC the year around! - so NO wetsuite! 8 months of good wind, and nice prices! -cheaper then in Europe or Egypt!

Kusini and Kaskasi are the prevailing wind in the island: 4 months of Kaskasi wind, 2 months with no wind, 4 months of Kusini wind, 2 months with no wind. Kusini: 15th June through 15th October approx. South to North wind. This wind blows every day, permanently, following parallel to the beach line upwards. In the morning the wind has a speed of 15-18 knots whereas at dusk the speed rises to 18-25 knots. Kaskasi: 15th December through 15th April, approx. North to South wind. This wind also blows parallel to the beach, although the speed varies somehow. There are days with gusts of higher speed wind. Even though one can still learn Kite surfing, sea conditions are more adequate for experienced kiters.


So really 15-18 and later 18-25 steady wind? 4 months every day?

I've been there from december to january and it always amazes me to read this sort of wind-descriptions in Zanzibar. The island (especially the smaller villages on the eastern coast) is a really nice place to have some chill vacation with some chill-kiteing but lets be honest - there are lots and lots of more windy places on the planet. Please don't misunderstand me - I don't want to argue or prove anything and may-be (probably!) I was there in the wrong year but all these sort of topics make me think about the intensional disinformation of the community.

From here comes the other proposal for Toby. To prevent this sort of misinformation or even hidden advertising, could it be thinkable in splocs.com to somehow link the information and the source. In case the users need more details, they could have at least an e-mail to contact. From the other hand this could make the informers feel some responsibility and add splocs more reliability.

I spent 12 days in Zanzibar last month and put together a short (3:33) clip of my trip. Check it out at youtube. I managed to kite 8 out of the 12 days there. Good wind averaging 15-20kn with 3 days where it got to 25kn+.

I stayed at place called tanzanite beach resort in NE Nungwi and cristal resorts kinanzi in Paje.

The beaches are much wider and sandier down south. Paje seemed to be the kite hub of Zanzibar. The next best place I would recommend is Matemwe and then Nungwi. I did an epic 20km downwinder from Matemwe to Nungwi.

Up north the beaches are not that wide and at high tide there is no beach. The wind is better(stronger) around Paje (SE) in Jun-Sept and better in Nungwi (North) from Dec to March.
