Hello there,

After 5 years kiting with a twintip, I started realizing that most of the fun I had was when I play with the choppy waves. So I made a step and just bought a surfboard to learn kiting in waves.

I have no previous experience in surf, so I m starting from scratch.
I do have experience in windsurf, and I thought I would be able thanks to that to jibe easily, but my first sessions (even in flat water) showed me completly wrong, got one ugly jibe among 50+ tentatives! This is like learning all over again.

I m looking for a VERY gentle wave spots, very tolerant with beginners, where mistakes would not mean washing machine punishment and go figure out where your board and kite is.

By very gentle, I mean small waves <1m and not very aggressive (no shore break or violent breaking).

Any recommendation of where I could find such a spot to learn wave riding and improve my technique before I go for something slithly bigger?

Thank you very much in advance,
y.

Do you mean anywhere in the world, since you do not say where you are located in the world, nor your country ?

No need to travel for that though - just go out when the wind is side-onshore and you will be fine :naughty:

These spots are EVERYWHERE almost :thumb:

Thats the beaty of kitesurfing in waves - we can ride waves much better than windsurfers, in less than ideal conditions (which actually ARE ideal for a kitesurfer often) - as smaller waves and low water and not perfect sideshore can be used 8)

Thanks for quick answer!

I m based in Spain, specifically Barcelona, we do not get quite often good conditions for wave on this side of mediterranea. It is all about choppy mess fest here, no clean long wave, to learn to do proper barrels.

So I am looking for a spot (worldwide) to spend my holidays that would bring cleaner waves than choppy.

The wave in Pacasmayo in Peru looks very good. Just have to start off on the smaller days.

If you want some good waves to learn on a bit closer to barcelona, just cross over to us here in Esposende, Portugal. We are in the north, close to Porto which has good flight connections to Barcelona.

The waves here are perfect to learn in the summer, especially in our nearby spot Viana do castelo. Not too big, flat in between, looooong wave, and a biig bay.

Here in Esposende the sea is a bit more demanding but still not difficult. The good part is that you will be almost alone, most people stay in the flat river.

Check us out at www.kiteandgo.com, we can arrange housing and everything, including transfer and transport to different spots.

Good luck finding your waves!

/Anders
