I've been winding lines around my bar for years and I bet this winder would do what it says it would do - Save time... I agree with it not being right for downwinder kiters and folks that can't leave gear around. I also agree that it's important to learn how to roll and unroll your lines without this piece of gear. Also you'd have to have one for every kite you own...

Maybe package deals for multiple purchases?

Been doing that for years - it rocks. Almost no tangles means you're first on the water.

I am in agreement with Nico.........keep it simple.......Nico leaves his lines on kites by the way :D

You all know by now that i leave my lines attached on all my kites

I only walk away from the kite "once" unwinding my lines then launch kite

The kite is the whole time on its back with trailing edge in line with the wind flow

The upwind wingtip LE is secured down in a special way (no sand in kite)

Kite peels right up & launches when the downwind wingtip line is pulled at a 45 degrees angle

100% foolproof and fastest launch every time at the edge of the wind window

Anybody can do the same and be just as fast and safe

Unrolling lines with Looper is fast but you still have to connect them to kite and "walk 3 times total"

Public service announcement :

self launching / all launchiing methods should never be said to be foolproof...

such statements simply have no place in kiting....

we're all subject to chance and Nature's changing course untrimmed...

Not sure how the looper deals with this...?
If straight lines are unwound the exact opposite way they were wound up they will come out straight.
You are just reversing an action.

Figure 8 works because each loop (in theory and mostly in practice) is the opposite movement or twist of the loop before.

Try winding up your garden hose in a figure 8 instead of a coil. You will be able to pull it back off with no twists. When you pull a hose off of a pile you coiled you need to untwist it after it is stretched out.. If you use a hose reel, which is essentially the same as the Looper, the hose will unroll straight.

Well Fo(ol) ....you just could not help yourself.....and just had to say something"dumb"

Public Service Rebuttal:

It is foolproof because there is "no connecting to do" since all lines are already attached perfectly

Foolproof because the kite remains at all time on its back / belly up and is "never flipped" LE down

The kite bar is always left on left side and right on right side (never "gets spun 180" to attach lines)

So you see the traditional way of launching as 3 times more chances for errors

Having to do those 3 more steps (attach lines-flip kite-180 the bar) creates more risks
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I pump kite on it's back in line with wind (2-3 minutes)
Walk away "once" perpendicular to wind unwinding the lines & do a visual=all clear (1 minute)
Depower kite-attach leash-hook-in chicken loop-insert chicken stick (30 seconds)
Walk upwind a bit until i am 45 degrees to kite (15 seconds)
Walk backward by pulling more on back line of Leeward wingtip & 100% safe launch (15 seconds)

Total of 4-5 minutes :thumb: (had lots of practice 150-200 times a year x 13)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am NOT the fastest because many of my friends who do it this way are just as fast & safe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please Fo share with all the KF enthusiasts how often you "practice" kiting

How often this week?
How often this month?
How often this year?
How often in last 5 years?
How often since 2001? ( as long as we are soooo competitive i got you beat by 2 years-1999)

As far as i am concerned you are more of a "cyberspace forum kiten" than the real thing

You'll forgive me...

I didn't bother reading your entire entry...

self launching is not foolproof because your lines drag the ground a bit and can find a snag.....

that's enough right there...

Time for some second or third party emoto's I'd guess??

thanks for your kind attention

I don't recall ever being in fear of you or your antics...

I'm retired to the country now, and am 150 plus miles from the spot...over 300+ miles round trip

So yeah, the day trips are out...does that mean I can't post here anymore??

You should tell Toby, wait he knows that already.

What exactly are you and yours hoping to accomplish here anyway?

Thanks

PS not foolproof---find another adj. I'd suggest, "the friendless alternative"
