Going to Croatia for 3 weeks family-vacation in July, mostly Zadar region. I have some plans to visit also Neretva delta for some kiteing. How is the everyday wind situation? Crowds (weekends/weekdays)? Is there a place to camp for a night right at the spot or what could be the alternatives? Thanks for help :)

I haven't been there personally but I know a bunch that love it there and go there all the time. But from what it was said there's plenty of space on the water on any day of the week. Weekends bring a few more kiters though. During the night there are just too many mosquitos at the spot so you better find an apartment for the few days there. Appts are cheap anyway. And the wind... It starts blowing before noon and blows for bigger kites and nines are also in the air I was told - wind called mistral -> http://orvas-yachting.com/guide/adriatic-weather/adriatic-winds/.

it is very crowded if you want to ride in flat on main spot. Farther out you go less crowded it is but it is also more chopy, especially when wind is stronger. You can ride upwind to a lagoon (opposite side of the river- behind the main spot) but there is a bit less wind and if wind drops you are royally f˙˙˙˙.

this year they also opened a new spot directly downwind near camp rio. with a small beach bar.

also i heard you have to pay 10e a day for using the spot this year.

Like Motion said, it is crowded, at weekends even more. And the water is very shallow, so when the low tide comes it gets even crowdier, because there is a sandbank in the middle of the spot, where you must ride downwind from it, to get to ride on the other half, so there's the bottle neck.
The beach is also crowded with kites.
You can go riding downwind to the deep water, but you are f*** if the wind stops.
The new Kaikala spot has less wind, than the initial spot.
There are also some fishermen at the spot, that don't like kiters very much and they are constantly yelling to keep away from their fishing spot (that is about 1/3 of kite spot), so conflicts are inevitable. And they are threatening to call the police. Yeah, they pay 100€/year for their fishing permit!!!
You can find a cheap apartement in near by village Blace.
It is a place to visit for it's nice thermal winds, but too much crownded for my taste.

Since you're going to be staying in Zadar, I suggest you check out this spot http://locations.splocs.com/kitesurf/loc/sabunike.html

Thanks, Zob. I am actually having an apartment in Nin, 100 m from the beach. I've been staying in Nin already for 4 summers and I know that the wind there is not a sure thing. I also don't like the islands although the thermal winds are nice and guaranteed. I've seen the totally missing security at the totally overcrowded kitespots on the islands and dead man on the beach and in case the sh1t hits the fan in the middle of the bay in these side-shore conditions, I really don't want to be there. I've been kiteing for 6 (?) years now but I still prefer secure and shallow places to make my jumps and couple of tricks.

And what about the Kaikala spot? I can't find it on Google Earth.

How many kites are generally in the air on a "normal" and on a "crowded" day?

I came home from Neretva one week ago, going into the water with kite at the main spot costs 70 kuna/day (or 10 euro), at the Kaikala spot 40 kuna/day. It includes rescue but in our case it didn't work because there was no gas in the boat. This is important because the wind is off-shore at the main spot. So to speak they take money for nothing... they are chasing people with kite on the beach without payment... not too friendly but understandable.
The spot is anyway maybe the best in Europe in summer season.
The wind comes about at 14:00 (almost) every sunny day, and lasts until sunset. The wind is mostly not strong, 12-14 knots, but sometimes goes up to 20.
If someone looking for stronger wind, take into account Viganj 115km away, there is the wind mostly 3-4 knots higher than at this place and going into the water is free, but no rescue.

On an average workday the spot is not too crowdy maybe 20-30 rider on the water, weekends more crowdy maybe 60-70 or more. On days low tide at 2pm, it can be used only in the deep water area (has to walk 200m) but it goes up in 2 hours (about 4pm) for a useable level.

Have a nice trip!

Thanks, bastianw :) I know what you mean - kiters are paying these 10 euros practically for nothing. If something happens, it is better just to struggle out yourself not to hope on that 10 euros :) S...t happened to me in Egypt and the boat was there in couple of minutes...
