This guy crashes his kite as a boat is coming in to check him out. Doesn't end well for his kite.

Should I be glad I have no audio at work? Looks like the boat tried to turn away from the lines when the kite went down ...

Had this happen a few weeks back - mong in a boat comes in to have a closer look at the kiters ... sits in the middle of our tack lines as we're trying to get out from the beach  license required for the boat but not brains ...

1:08 he drops his kite in front of the boat.

What did the boat do wrong?

Isn't a Kiter riding w/ both hands at the ends of the bar a universal signal to stay the hell away.

assuming the boat was not giving aid he may have been in the wrong.

e.g. in Michigan

Michigan law designates the following dangerous operating practices as illegal.

Improper Distance is not maintaining a proper distance while operating a vessel or towing a person. To maintain a proper distance when you are operating at greater than “slow, no wake speed” (except in channels that are not posted), the vessel or persons being towed must not be within 100 feet of: • A shoreline (if operating in water less than three feet deep)
• Any moored or anchored vessel
• A dock or raft
• Any marked swimming area or person(s) in the water

since kite lines are generally less than 100' (30.5m) it could stand to reason that the boat should have been operating with better care - especially if he sees a kite in the water. Maybe not everyone can put 2+2 together, but it would be nice if we can expect the slightest bit of common sense from power boaters - but that's something of an oxymoron from what I've seen in all my years on the water.

I say the kiter is a tool. He goes and checks out a boat and then crash his kite on flat water... if you don't have control to ride chop without crashing you shouldn't be riding close to boats.

The video title should read idiot kiter crashes kite in front of boat.

I just wrote a lengthy reply amd explanation, but it vanished when I tried to post it, and I hate retyping shit I just wrote, so...

Essentially I agree with plummet. I am not in any way defending the kiter, just looking at how the rules might be interpreted

In a nutshell I think both parties could be considered equally at fault, so if I were to judge I would say - kiter needs to learn from mistake, buy your own lines - power boater clear your own prop, stay clear of kiters in the future, give kiter a ride to the dock - both parties share a beer, shake hands, carry on with your fun.

Comprehension failure, robertovillate. The boater was well clear. Then the kiter made an abrupt u-turn, rode back toward the boat at a closing speed of 20-30 knots, and crashed the kite immediately in front.
