Not really, what actually happens is that people think its cool and it makes great news and good publicity for our sport.

When Lewis jumped Brighton Pier in the UK (which is probably twice the size of the US pier in the OP) loads of whingers complained that it was reckless and bad for the sport yet it made Lewis a celebrity (albeit for a short while), boosted his career and provided some great positive publicity for kiteboarding. No bans, no lawsuits - just regular people saying how cool it was.

Yeah, but the Brighton Pier jump happened in England. People have balls over there. In the US we are overpopulated by weak pansies that see stuff like this and automatically decide that people will absolutely die if they even pump up a kite and ban it everywhere.

What a bunch of douchebags. You were so stoked about the last pier jump. And you're so stoked about this one and the next one. But just how much more time do you really think is going to pass before some KiteForum reader FAILS in his attempt to stoke you? And when that happens, you can bet we will get lots of coverage - not the 30 second "gee wow" news clip, but I'm talking about a twenty-minute segment on 60 Minutes. And yes, it will include clips of all the pier jumps that you are so stoked about. They will play each of those clips once. And then the final clip, the one where the dude smacks his head into the pier and his body goes limp before getting dragged into the beach by his kite - that clip they'll play OVER and OVER again while countless voices talk about the dangers of kiting to the kiters and to the general public. :thumb:

Please save this page somewhere in your browser. That way, when this all comes true a year from now or a few years from now, and when you think you're experiencing dejavu, you can come back to this thread and realize, no, actually you're just a douchebag.

...

He made that jump CLEAN !!
He Wouldn't have done it if he wasn't in it for the Stoke !!!

Only thing i'm Bumming on is the number of (G's) he's pulling on his
machine, in-order to pull That off.
I just wish they would make the kite a bit stronger for the guy
and maybe go to the 1,200Lb test spectra we use for towing HG's
and PG's on the front or Top-lines. Just a Lil-bit extra drag for safety.

OK-- My Rigid Wing HG failed at 10-G's, and i'm gonna pass-out at 8 ;
so maybe i'm being a bit conservative . (sorry) but :

Bille
