Hi. I'm having trouble just keeping the kite still at edge of Window. I have no problem flying a foil kite. So I brought a 2011 Liquid Force 12 Meter Envy. I can self launch the kite; however, once the kite is in the air, I want it to just stay still at window edge. I've seen videos on kiters just keeping the kite at the edge without hardly touching the bar and the kite staying still on its' own. When I try to do it, the kite flys foward upwind and falls or it flys backwards and falls. I thought maybe I brought too big of a kite to learn to fly a LEI so, then, I brought a 2008 Naish 7.5 Cult. The Cult does the same as the Envy. The "How to " section of Kiteforum is empty on Basic Knowledge....Flying skills. THanks

Some kites like to fly, others like to park. I'm not sure what the Envy likes. My EH Beast parks well. My Rippehr parks well. But, my Ovando needs to move all the time. It likes to be flown. Maybe it's not your technique.

if you mean just parking it at the edge of the window you probably do not have enough bar pressure to hold it still. if this is what you mean either more wind or moving the stopper ball a bit down will fix it but with either, be careful

The reason its not full of information on how to teach yourself to fly an LEI is because its considered much safer for you and others to get lessons on how to learn.

There are many examples on the forum of information on how things have gone wrong for people trying to self-teach.
Not saying it it cant be done - just that even intelligent people get injured or killed. The lessons make for faster progress and should teach you enough to be able to progress safely from then on.

I am sure that in this case you just need a little more wind ... Later you will learn how to control the kite in the gusty wind, in light winds... (you must remember that the lines should always be strained if the lines are weaker this is a sign that something is not right. Therefore, in light winds or gusty wind you must constantly move the kite) .
Hope it's help.
PS: and most important is to find an instructor! :)

You didn't say what kind of foil ...? 2-line, 4-line on handles or a bar, or depower?

With the LEIs, you steer them with the bar but you can also control their sink or climb with the bar - sheeting in or out.
Assuming you're flying the kite in enough wind, send it to the side of the window then without steering it at all, just sheet out and see what happens ... as you decrease the AoA the kite falls out of the sky.
If you increase the AoA by sheeting in, the kite will climb towards the zenith.

I think that's the skill you're talking about. You're probably sheeting in and out too much and trying to steer the kite at the same time.

Get some lessons to make sure you're on the right track. It can be quite an adjustment going from foils to depowers ...

make sure u have the front and back lines attached correctly, i.e. the inside lines at the bar go to the bridle/middle of the kite and the outer lines on the bar/bar ends go to the attachments at the tips of the kite.
