Well i guess my idea of what is long distance is different to others. 50km in my book is a practice run for something longer. but none the less its still worthy or better than nothing at all. The funny thing is most of you blokes would do 50 km or so each 2-3 hour session zipping backwards and fowards. You just don't realise it. doing it in a straight line is no harder. its just the mental ascpect of going a-b.

Toby you could do 50km in your sleep if you chose to.

I will admit 3.75 hours for a 62 year old bloke is reasonable. I just don't deem it world record worthy. But then theres a whole lot of world records that are completely stupid.

I could not.

I did the course race tour in 2007...how long was the longest tack? mmmh, maybe 5 min? Burning legs, fighting my body every time in the race...every race!

I was on twintips...and several hours one direction twintip?

Did you ever do it? If not, you ain't got no clue!

Well i'm abit of distance man myself so i have done long runs. 240km on the landboard over 24hrs in 25-40+ knots being the longest distance i've done. 80km being the longest in one direction.

Sorry for sounding crass. its not my lack of esperience but perhaps my level of expectation is higher than others when it comes to endurance kiting.

I also come from mountain biking where 50km doesn't even register as a long distance. The amusing thing is that kiting takes less effort than mountainbiking.

MTB.............kitesurfing...........yep sure they are comparible

Man you are on another planet surely :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Hat's off to you though, you are one extreme dude

I think all the skeptics should wait for the full video. I heard he was throwing down a whole
series of unhooked tricks along the way.Mixed it up with some old school dangle moves
which helped loosen him up. Got lonely so hooked up with an old friend.

Well i should at least give Richard his dues for thinking outside the box of the average kiters mind set.

Its obvious from this thread that most people consider endurance kiting and impossible and daunting task.

So qudos to you Richard Branson for having an open mind and taking on a challenge many others consider "impossible".

To the others who think these tasks are unachievable. Open your mind. It is amaising what your body can withstand. It will withstand a significant amount more than you think is achievable. The biggest limiting factor is your mind telling you its not possible.

Hang on a frikking minute there, no one said it was impossible, it was you who said it was easy and that it wasn't anything special, don't go turning it around!!

Just because for 99.9% of us a 20 mile kite across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world in choppy conditions isn't easy doesn't mean that we believe it impossible!!

Hang on a minute. I didn't say it was easy. Just said it didn't deem it world record worthy. Still don't.

What he said.

I'm pretty sure Richard Branson didn't present it as a "world record" equivalent to Usain Bolt's 100m record or a sub - 2hr 4 min. marathon. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure it required considerable stamina & endurance & it's an admirable achievement for a (almost) 62 year old man.

No disrespect man, but Branson (billionaire, philanthropist, playboy, genius) doesn't need your qudos.

This I agree with - the difference between Branson and the rest of us is that he doesn't doubt himself and just is successful. Real life Yoda - do or do not, there is no try.
