Actually it is a SURPRISE wind :happybirthday:

A non predicted 2 hours steady 15 knots side side on breeze at the beach :surf:

A wind where everyone can be on their favorite size kite and board

A wind where you can practice all of your moves safely :strong:

Nothing beats such a gift after working all day :dance3:

There is no "perfect" wind IMO - not even for the individual - when talking waves

The less wind, the better waves - longer, cleaner, better :thumb:

The more wind, the better the waveriding ability with "standard" medium kitesizes like 7-8m2.
And even better with small kites like 4-5-6m2.

But the waves get worse and worse typically, and the surface more and more choppy :o

I prefer winds around the 7-9m2 size, a compromise with good wave ability (fast DTL kite handling), and clean waves :thumb:

Meaning winds around 16 to 21 for the 9m2, and 21 to 25 knots for the 7m2 (@78kg)

A good 4 or 5m2 wavesession is great - but can be a bit choppy. Happens quite often.

But a big kite session with 10-11m2 can also be great - with the most beatiful clean green waves and sunny :naughty:

If I could only have ONE windspeed (and kite) always and had to choose, my pick would be 22 knots and an 8m2 8)

Goes with "everything" :cool2:

Steady planing wind.

Constant wind makes cleaner waves.

You can rig the right kite size (if you've got it).

It encourages you to try new things.

Peter i am happy to see that you express yourself more using the "smilies" :P

My big kite sessions are on 19m2 XR2 Riot :thumb: :surf: :sun:

And for me my big kite session is on a Speed3 21m and my smallest kite is a 10m :( And I only try my 10m once this year in 22 sessions. I am mostly on 12m and up. Personally my best wind would be 30 knots on my 10m kite for big air. Or 25 knots on my 12m but I still prefer the 30 knots and flat water would be a dream 8)

So we see that everything is relative, flat water, waves on a surf, race, not talking about the weight of the rider. I'm 195lbs by the way.

That does not make any sense to me - waveriding with a 19m2

If you can not ride frontside DTL it is worth nothing in my book (and you CAN NOT do this with huge kites like 14-15m2 and bigger).

I would rather do something else - go surfing f.ex - or go raceboarding - but definitely NOT waveriding with these kitesizes...

Each to their own, just my choice.
Most dont ever ride waves with big kites like 10-12m2 but I actually like it now and then.

I was just pointing that saying "10-11m2 as a big kite" session does not add up for most of us :)
You must live in an always windy place Peter

Many 2012 big kites (15-17-19m2) that turn fast and are fun in waves will allow you to go DTL

Give any of those kites 12 knots and you can go frontside or backside DTL and kill it in the waves

Large kites do not fly like pigs anymore
Agreed to each his own in it's own environment :thumb:
