I have a bunch of bars with knots on the front lines and loops on the rears. I just bought a kite from a different brand and it needs the bar to be the other way!!! Grrrr.

So which is the most standard type of hookup that will match the most kites?

And why don't all manufacturers agree to do it one way?

I also wonder why this simple thing is not possible.

Just buy a set of pigtails to add to the ends...put loops on the knots and knots on the loops......squimples!!
I know Slingshot sell them and I'd guess others do too.

yeah, got a Naish kite and the pigtails are backwards compared to every other brand out there.

Ocean Rodeo Rise kites have a larkshead on the rear bridle. Maybe we should use this as a topic for a survey. I will start:

Years ago, this subject was a topic here...and I think most people agreed that having loops on the REAR kite lines was best...the rationale being: Most kites are adjusted for use in different wind speeds by using the knots on the long rear line pigtails, which are connected to the kite. So, having the loops on the rear kite lines makes the most sense, allowing for easy adjustment for wind speed.

Are there any kites out there which have the adjustment knots on the FRONT pigtails, which are connected to the kite?

we should talk about the pigtails and its setup on the kite (not on the lines).
This should avoid confusion.

I think North has the knot on the front. The line is pretty long, so more knots could be added, to trim the kite. Since they have trimming knots on the steering (back) lines on the leader lines of the bar.

Talking about the end of the flying lines coming from the bar, just where you attach it to the kite.

Sure I can make pigtails and obviously I will! But this should be standardized. For example I have line extensions from one company and aren't compatible with all my bars now. And I agree with kitezilla that the knots should be on the back to allow adjustments.

I can't see any reason (business, marketing, engineering, production, ego) that this should not be standardized in 2011. It should have been done in 2009.

Talking about the Kite side:
Eclipse - knots on rear lines, larkshead on front bridle
Ozone - larkshead on rear lines, knots on front bridle (backwards)

It doesn't make much sense to trim the bar different by moving back lines on the bar every time you change kites. Much better to trim the bar so 4 lines are equal on full power and then choose a knot for the rear pigtail of your kite. So if your bar is trimmed with 4 equal back lines and has standard kook proof connectors, you should be able to use it on all kites.
