Dimitri - you spammed. Almost as bad is Tautologies and his Naish pimping but even he refrained from it in this thread!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to report back after starting this thread about my kite selection dilema.
I have now flown the 11m Rebel and 15m Dyno. The Dyno was not really in suitable conditions to form an opinion yet but the 11m rebel was very nice and flew very well indeed. I cant quote wind speeds as i have no idea what it was blowing, all i know is there were + 10 kites on the water and i was the only person riding and staying upwind on my Nobile 666 (126 x 38). Nearly everyone else was on much bigger boards and even direction wave boards with kites ranging from 11 - 14 m in the air :)
Its a long time since i was on the water previous to this and i spent the majority of my 2 hr session just riding up and down (I was very nicely powered) so i could settle back into riding slowly. In my absence from the water (2007) i have undergone several operations on my foot and one also in my ear ?? so i did not want to push it too hard to start with plus i am very rusty and looking to regain my confidence on the water which was never a problem before now. I sent the kite a few times and was more than happy with the lift and speed of the jumps and landings and am really pleased that i opted for the rebel. Obviously i still have nothing current to compare them too but never the less i am yet to find something i dont like. I have not tried to relaunch yet as i don't normally drop them and with a 5th line this is straight forward anyway. The very short run i had on the Dyno was in light wind (of course) to which i would normally be riding if it were not for the 2m waves crashing onto the beach in onshore wind which made it impossible for me to get out far enough to start enjoying it but it also handled very well, turned nice and fast and looks like it will be a nice addition to my new quiver. I was also impressed with the North bar. it was easy to adjust for my preferred reach , feels much more comfortable than the last NKB bar i tried in 2007. Also the lines are really nice and everything else just works in a way you would expect from one of the leading kite companies.
I will try and write again when i have more experience with the wind range of these 2 kites and the overlap i have (or have not) when switching from one to the other.
I am currently on vacation on the Black Sea, Bulgaria http://lozenets-blacksea.com/e2/index.php/site/cameras/surf-condition it is not a real kiteboarding vacation as such (not the windiest time to visit). I am here primarily to spend some time with my lovely wife and 1 year old dog (Chocolate Labrador - Kai) who loves the sea by the way.
Anyway thanks again to everyone for all your comments and advice, hopefully i can also pass some of my experience on to some others in a similar situation as i gain more time on the water with these kites.

Tight lines to you all,

Mark

lol well John...to each his own. I tend to give recommendation based on these factors: what people are looking for, and what I know.

If someone say I want SS or Cab I would NEVER say but hey look at...etc. if it is open then it is open...
So as I know quite a lot about Naish, and they have a shit load of products that I like for different things....it tends to move that way yes. Also as I do have a quite a few boards (mostly general surfboards) for kiting I do not like...they keep on breaking...I generally tend to not say anything about those boards because some people do like them.

Not really trying to say you are wrong as I don't care too much, just letting you know my approach.

a.

Hi all,
Well i finally managed to get a ride on the 15m Dyno and i am very happy. I was easily upwind of everyone else on bigger kites than me with bigger boards also. Again i cant comment on the exact wind speed but it was a little gusty up to14kn as it was side off shore.
I cant quite seem to get soft landings yet but it seems to jump well in the light winds , I guess the light gusty wind drops me quicker also. For smaller jumps everything is fine and transitions also very smooth. The de power works really well which was a nice surprise at 65kilo i need this feature often ;-)

So far so good, nothing has changed from my initial opinion which is that I have bought 2 very nice kites which suit my requirements perfectly.

I just need to ride them back to back to see what the overlap in sizes is relative to the wind speed and hopefully that will confirm everything.

Now i am looking for a smaller kite and the new 2013 Rebel will be the choice for me. I am thinking 8m to go with the 11m or do you guys think i should get a 7m instead ?

Maybe i should start a new thread for this??

Thanks for any input.

Mark

Well i decided on an 8m and my new 2013 (Rebel) 8m has just this minute arrived at work ;-) well i cant wait now for some wind. Sods law it wont blow now for weeks :-(

I had a really good ride on the 11m on Saturday and am really stoked with it I am slowly getting my confidence back whilst riding and slowly moving through my old repertoire of tricks. I still cant believe the de-power these kites have.

Next up is a new board as my 2007 Nobile 666 (126 x 38) kicks up a little too much spray for my liking and is not the best in our local choppy lake. Its a real shame as it rides fantastic otherwise and has only been ridden 4 times now, its still like new.

I'll keep you posted.

Mark
