If you can still see color when wet ...then the color is still there.
You should be able to sand it smooth and polish it back up (like they do to restore paint on cars). Also, this is done after a surfboard maker cures his final hot coat, sands it smooth, and polishes it to a gloss.
Care should be taken not to sand through the color and glass (more than you already have) and not to burn through the gloss coat and color when polishing it back up.
thanks but i tried exactly that with rubbing compound and it didnt help but when its wet the colour is there i used star brite now i will try with poly
