Brent where you riding that you're forced to wear a PFD??
For me the worst thing is shitty attitudes - people who aren't conscious of the safety concerns or think it's funny when their kite flies into the road and then into a tree. I saw two dudes out on the beach a couple of weeks ago, each about 10 beers deep, launching just upwind of our bridge on kites that were about 4m too large for the current wind - knowing only what they had seen on a youtube video on how to launch and land and thus getting dragged across the rocks, and one of their kites winding up wrapped around the bridge.

Pumps that only last 30 sessions (= about 5-6 months) Due to the thinner leading edges one needs to pump more pressure hence killing the pump faster. (experienced thanks to Nemesis HP 2008 kites)
Marketing non sense: "This kite is good for jumping old school - new school - unhooked - free style and wave riding"
