well, there are some Airstyle wipe outs within the PKRA video
for wake check this out, kind old - from 2008 - but i enjoy watching and guess it represents a bit the kind of thing the wake crew must endure while progressing
(take the sound out!)
and then the sliding stuff wipe outs, also good for a laugh [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/45457971[/vimeo]

all these haters. What is wrong with you. There are some "twinkle toes" moves that Toby does, and I am really not very fond of them, holding the board with his feet, pointing his toes while he pirouettes, they remind me too much of skateboarding in the pre dogtown days (before your time it was in the 70s) but I don't care who you are you have to respect the man, he has mad skills, an absolute sick jesus walk, long smooth dark slide, that board flip right from feet to hands, and his airs with board flips are sweet. I think Toby could def work on his style rough it up a bit, but, don't bag on him, he's got some moves. There is absolutely no reason to hate. Sure criticize him if you like, point out what you like and don't like, but if you don't give him credit for mastering airstyle you are not respecting kiting. Kiteboarding is not just wakestyle, it is big air, it is surf, it is land, it is snow, it is kiteloops and yes it is airstyle too.
No hate on this end. At least not for the man, more the mission. I dont think I woulda bit into this topic very hard had Toby kept to selling his vid. The banner adds are a little much for my sensibilities, but I really cant hold that against em can I.... Its his freakin forum.
No its much more the sum total of how its orchestrated that really cant be construed as anything other than a huge ego trip.
Re-name a discipline complete with "what is airstyle" video promo's and a locked thread running diary of "this is what me and my videographer are up to".
Not worth hate, but it gets a bit over the top when he muscles said personally branded discipline into another organizations Comp, not as an exibition, but claims it as a full blown world championship!!!! in its first outing? Come on people how is that not ego driven? I think Toby fully expected to win!
After that its just fun to debate it out with all the supporters who throw words like Hater and Ego at anyone who points this shit out.
I cant help a little sarcasm and inuendo from time to time, I mean how else are you supposed to call a spade a spade? In general you'll find little in the line of slander or name calling in this thread from me.

So...an argument about the legitimacy (fashion) of different sports and disciplines based on relative risk and wipeouts...topical to a newspaper story?!
Extremely poor comprehension, folks, or just blinded by bitterness?
My inclusion of risk was simply in relation to mass appeal..... which is what Toby hopes to achieve.
Legitimacy is more relevant when we look at the history of the riding through the years of the PKRA where old school riding was evolved away from
Having it in this thread was more just the way it rolled out. We can move it if you like. The NYT story doesn't bother me so I guess its probably better placed in the Airstyle world champs thread.
the wipe-out videos - & no conclusions were taken - were posted to illustrate the differences in commitment required to progress in both styles, as some guys around here seem to not have it clear
what i can´t grasp is how to pointing out those differences is hate?
on a smaller note more or less in line with what Brent says about the championship stuff. it just don´t bother me except that, as a principle, i like to see things being called for what they are. & it was not about ´just having fun´
edit - well, maybe it was for the guy with a bull mask
Toby deserves to be on the front page of the NYTimes for nothing other than putting up with and disseminating the constant barrage of crap you're guaranteed to retrieve from a forum dedicated to a bunch of adrenaline junkies. All the better that it happens to be for a skill other than that!
