Hi

Hard to say , each year is different but I can give some info...

Restrictions are lifted starting Sept. 16 ... No more banned beaches for wind/kite surfers

We still enjoy thermals ... Till mid / end Oct so we usually get 15 or so knots with west winds and nuclear 35 and up when east winds are blowing ... So make sure you bring along all kites you have ( you can also rent locally ) .

If you are from north Europe , a shorty should be fine ( many Brits and folks from Skandinavia kite without wetsuits at all ) , I wear till oct/ nov my 2mm summer wetsuit ( long legs / short arms ) currents can be a bit cold if you drop your kite and have a hard time relaunching it ... It's a questions of personal taste I'll guess ....

Regarding hotels ... Have no clue ... I live 50 km away ( 25 miles ? ) so only go there to kite but this page may help you ...

http://www.tripadvisor.com/SmartDeals-g ... Deals.html

They even have an iPad app ... Good site but there many other around the web ...

Maybe some Tarifa local join us and have better ideas ...

Nightlife ? No clue ... Just get out and have fun ... Tarifa is open all year

Regards

Panchito

I haven't been to Tarifa in years so if my info is out of date I hope someone will correct me.
There are two main spots - one at valdevaqueros and one at Dos Mares and the wind will dictate which one is best.

Where you stay also depends on budget, what you are looking for ie partying or kiting and relaxing, are you with friends/. solo or family? Many many options from high end to budget, Tarifa is a great place. Try and make sure you have a car to get around to the spots and get into town. Tarifa gets really busy but September should be a nice time to be out there. Good food, good atmosphere, nice big beach and a lovely vibe....I'm very jealous.

Early Sept is great - I take as many kites as I can - try to take a range from your largest to smallest.

Sept 1st is the carnival (of the horse) & the place really kicks off - but things start to quieten down by mid-Sept

For hotels - book ASAP, I normally book 6-12months in advance.

There are lots of spots - best take a hire car: Sancti Petri, Canos, Las Dunas, Vald, Dos, Football Stadium, Palmones, Getares & Sotgrande

Hi all

We are thinking in going to Tarifa by the end of October/begin of November when we belive it will not be too crowded and water temperature should still be fine, right?

One of my concerns is if our kite sizes are small enough...

My kite has a wind range for 15-26Kn (75Kg person) and my weight is around 83 Kg. In lanzarote I have used this kite with wind gusts of 29Kn. One of my other mates has similar kite and weight.

In the following link suggests that if the wind is too strong there are spots around tarifa (by car) where we should be fine with our 9.5m/10m kites

http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2350572&start=10

Would you agree? Comments? Suggestions? Experiences?

I know there are many things to do and visit around Tarifa but we would like to be most of the time kiting.

Many thanks in advance!

Ulises

October/November is a great time to go from a crowd perspective but if you are hoping to kite every day you might be disappointed. Due to the battling Poniente and Lavante winds Tarifa winds can be variable and at that time of year even more so. That said if you get a nice week of sunshine and Poniente you will have the right kite and not too many people to ruin your experience - definitely take a wetsuit. Regarding the other spots - the link alludes to the fact they are not so easy I would concur with that particularly if you are not familiar with them.

@eran m: In which configuration are you visiting Tarifa, family, friends, by your self?

Car is definitly needed as for lack of good public transport and distances between spots depending on wind orientation.
