But after spending 3 hours trying to remove that U shaped pin from the rotohead so that I could change a worn depower line only to have the rotohead crack I have fallen out of love!

Don't get me wrong....I love they're kites and the bar and safety is the best available imo but that is the worst design for holding in a depower i have ever seen. Used to fly LF kites and to change the depower on those took 15 mins flat.

May have to consider the naish shift bar for the future cause don't want to ever have to do that again!

That and a hammer and its done in 1 min...

But I think the 2013 bar has screws...

The 2012 Best Redline bar v2 has the sacrifice insert on it; a Delrin (self-lubricating plastic like Tef-lon) "sacrifice" insert system keeps you from ever having to change your depower lines. Rather it is a quick allen key to swap out the insert (which has yet to wear out). Other companies have adopted/bought the rights to this technology for 2013 (North is one I believe) as it has proven itself this year.

If you are getting a new bar, look for one that has this technology as IMO it is game changing...

With the tool it's a lot easier but still not easy...
The hardest part I found was to get the line back through the velcro strap. Took me an entire night to replace the depowerlines of two bars.. The new 2013 bar looks way better both in depowerline wear as well as replacing the line..

I had to replace depower line in my north bar 2010 this week. I didnt get the original north line so i used a line i got in a boat shop. Took me about 5 minutes to remove the pin from ironheart. Its damn easy and yet its a very safe system. Use a screwdriver and a hammer. You can also use a small needle-like thingy to give the pin a little push before removing it with a screwdriver and a hammer.

Yup, that's a bitch...but...if you tie a tiny line at the end and then pull it thru it takes seconds.

Far worse is adding the microloop !

...because the kites end up wrapped around a tree before they have a chance to.

Well I must have hit that pin with the included tool and a hammer 1000 times and it barely moved. Completely fused or salted in there even though I always rinse in fresh water. Eventually got it out but all the prying with the screw drive has craked the rotohead so all that time was wasted for nothing as its now not safe to use.
Going to put a switch depower and chicken loop on now as its the only spare I have and tomorrow looks windy.
Still can't believe the naish designers. Did they even consider line replacment when they over engineered this piece!
