Last year i was there only for 1 day and I used my 13 m and my 9 meters. I think it's the normal wind there around 18-20 knots. Last summer i was in Fuerte and I rented a car to go to Famara. You can do the same in the other way around. Fuerteventura is cool too.

If you know some spanish check this forum out http://www.spainkiters.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=66921

Sorry for my english :S

I live on Gran Canaria which is one of the other canary Islands. Generally there is a lot less wind in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura than there is on Gran Canaria. Even in the summer you could find yourself sailing 9's and possibly even bigger on days where we would be overpowered with 5's on GC.

You should start with 9 and then add on both sides as you have room in the luggage. You will most likely be able to get away with a 7 on the low side. As it can get a little bumpy at Famara you would not want more than a 12. As mentioned elsewhere Fuerteventura is very nice and only a 20min ferry trip away. You should really try that out, I was there only last week and had some nice conditions (although I had to sail a 9m2 which always suck).

Silversurfer - ahahaha, suck being on a 9 :-?

I would be EXCTATIC to be on a 9 all day. My main kit (like 95% of the time) is a 17 m Blade Fat lady :thumb:

Anyway, great info since we are considering a week in Famara, Lanzarote in october.

October? Take your surfboard with you. It will be a matter of luck to get some wind. The trade winds on the Canary Islands are usually reliable through the summer months. October should be really good for surfing. You can also rent boards in Famara.

Just back from a 3 weeks trip in Famara.
1st week : 7m
2nd week : 9m
3rd week : 9M + extension (almost no wind the last 2 days... but a surprising very good swell for paddle surfing)
:cool2:
As Dirk mentioned already, the alize usually start to decline in august... so october can be good but it is more of a gamble than in summer.

Enjoy your trip to my favorite spot :thumb:

Hmmm that does not sound to promising. Maybe we have to reconsider since Sharm-el-sheik and the area around Hurghada (El-Gouna and Safaga) is also on the list of go-to-places. Already been to Hurghada twice and Fuerte Ventura once so looking for something new.
