I have an old but neat and very light 6'4" Matt Kechele surfboard that i want to fit with the cheapest possible combo of deck grip+straps.

I wont be doing much extreme with this board, prob use it as more of a cruising board and surf some maybe max 6' breaks.

i saw these :
http://kiteboarding.com/proddetail.asp? ... surfstraps

http://www.kiteboarding.com/proddetail. ... untinserts

what do people recommend for under $100 ?

Probably better response if ya post this question over on the board-builders
forum.

Is there a wooden stringer going up the center of your board ?
Is the End-grain going between the skins, or is the grain going length-wise ?
How many layers of glass on top, ( many current pressure dings) ?

Anyway, if ya do the work yourself, the inserts like SS , T-nuts should be around
two or three dollars. I don;t like the glue on ones you found unless ya use
them just to find the GG of the board , or you could glass around them with
a two inch bigger patch off each side to distribute the load.

If you purchase SS T-nuts ; place a magnet on them to see if it is
real SS or that chinese crap passing for SS . Real SS will NOT be
affected by a magnet.

I'm not sure what you mean by Chinese SS but austenitic grades of SS have very low magnetic permeabilities and hence show almost no response to a magnet. They also have some of the best strength and corrosion resistance properties.

Its pretty obvious. He's saying there is some metal on the market from China masquerading as SS when it is not.

This should bring a Laugh :

In 2008 i had a buddy tell me, he had read on a forum about How to find
your SS T-nuts after you do the layup on the board, and it's time to drill them out.

?? what ??, you don't place a waxed hex-nut in them first, and have the top
a few thousands high so you hit them while sanding the bump off the top skin ?

"NO", he said , -- "they magnetize the SS T-nut with a wire coil & volts first, then
drop iron filings on the upper skin to find them afterward ...".
And the guy posting said: "the package indicated they "Were" SS" !

See where This is going ?
