no a good basecoat will help that easily...then if you use a harder wax it should be no poroblem. It is all in how you apply the wax.
There are a few that can be harder to keep on, but some of them are so good it is worth bringing a little bar out in the water.

I have my own recipe that works killer. Maybe I'll film me waxing up my new skater.

Wax feels way better to me, I've never been on a pad that could match the way a pair of new booties sticks into wax. You do have to recognize that it's going to be tough on the board landing airs but strapless riding is kind of a slinky deal anyway- lots of big weight shifts and deep bends- so when you come down from a big one you just have to be prepared to do a deep knee bend.

I've been making my own special blend also - it's cold water wax with some Klister (super sticky XC ski wax) melted in. I love having a little tackiness on the board but it hasn't been lasting for me- the cold water wax starts to goob off as soon as we have a 70 degree day. I think maybe a better basecoat could help - how can I make it last?

Wax is not durable and provides good traction for only 15 to 30 minutes of time on the board.
It works for surfers because their time actually standing on the board is very short,
as compared to kiters riding waves for hours at a time.

If you ride barefoot, pads are like velcro for your feet.
A one piece pad is much nicer than a bunch of pieces.
I buy a bulk piece of NSI deck pad and cut it to my own template.
Board lengths and widths vary so much that a stock shape can be too short or too narrow.

When I borrow a board that has only wax,
I find I need to pay a lot of attention to staying connected to the board.
Definitely more challenging.......
