Getting gear to Honolulu

Postby 20 m or bust » Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:09 am

Heading to Honolulu for the month of September. Would like to take gear, but it will cost me $100 each way for my Best Golf bag (or so they say), The bag is huge and may cost twice that once I am at the airport. Also, going to see my grandbaby for the first time so not sure how much I will kite. All that leads to my question: if I leave my board at home, what is the most cost effective way to have a twin tip in oahu to ride on those days I wanna ride? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Well I guess if you find a cheap TT here it and then try to sell it...but then you might be limited to a board you don;t like, and you are still not 100% that you can sell it.

I would consider just buying a good one here, and assume you have to bring it home :-) At least there would be a built in $100 discount.

You could contact the cargo companies, but not sure if that would help in price tho....

you can rent boards too, there are several shops in Kailua and Hawaii Kai with kite surfboards and twintips for $20-$30 a day, not too bad...

Decided to pack up my Best golf bag and take my board. Put a couple golf clubs in to make it realistic. Didn't matter...got a diligent sky cap at gate check, he brought in his supervisor and I got charged for it. Bastards!!! Did save the tip though...cap got nothin...

When will you be in Honolulu? I'll be there from the 6th to the 9th, if you want I could lend you mine. It's a TT though.

My wife got to Honolulu today. It is her first time there, she is already in love with the island. She did get her board there, but I really appreciate your offer. Is the best side of the island to ride the east side right now? It seems like the wind is NE. My wife is looking for some advice for the best places to ride. She has not riden in surf much so is more of a flat water rider. She rides a TT. I will be there on the 15th of this month so she should have things wired by the time I get there. Thanks again for the hospitality...

Yup east side. It depends on what you're looking for. Kailua or Mokuleia (north) are the main spots.

Is anyone going to be there between the 6th and the 9th? It's my first time and it would be cool to meet some kiteboarders for a drink or some kiteboard. :D

My wife is going to Kailua this morning and I'm sure will be out again in the time frame you mention.
