Punta del Este and Punta del Diablo

Postby AlexandreBorges » Tue Apr 15, 2014 2:39 pm

Hello people,

I think I'll be in Punta del Este for New Year's Party 14/15.

Could somebody tell me what the conditions are for kitesurfing there or in Punta del Diablo?

Thanks

Hi,

normaly you have two main wind directions for this time of the year:

1) “Noreste” a thermal wind on nice weather, builts up starting at 10 am with 10 kn and then increasing until Sunset reaching 25kn or more. Perfect sideshore from the left at Punta del Este, Spot “Parada 31” (waves) or Laguna Garzón, flatwater freestyle. Parada 31: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdzRLd5K ... 0BqwPNnNfg
Everything from Punta del Este heading north to Brasil (La Paloma, Pedrera, Aguas Dulces, Balizas, Punta del Diablo, Santa Teresa etc..) this direction gets a bit offshore and gusty, so you have to move around to finde a beach/bay where it is still side. If you are lucky you can find really clean waves to kite on.

2) “Pampero” a cold south wind. After some good weather this wind comes like a hamer, starts with over 30 kn, temprature drops more than 10 degrees and big surf rolls in. You can then find amazing conditions all along the coast with wind from the right. Last for one or two days.

Most Kiters are based around Punta del Este, expect only one or two other Kiters around Punta del Diablo etc....
Apart from this all other winddirections are possible depending on high and low pressure systems, so check windfinder and look on googlemap to find the perfect spot for those days. :thumb:
