Hello,

As you can see I am new to this forum and to kitesurfing in general. However I want to learn and I am really passionate about it. I am at the level that I can easily get on the board but I still can't go upwind. I need some practice and stronger winds. I only had about 10 hours on the beach.

I bought a Flexifoil ION4 8.5m but I realized that it's not big enough for the winds (8-14) that we usually have here in Cyprus. I listed this kite for sale on eBay BTW if anyone is interested because I need the money to buy a bigger kite that will suit my needs. I currently use a friends 12.5m ION to kitesurf but I have to get my own kite. I was looking at Griffin kites because they are cheap and the re-launch is stupid easy. I want a kite that it's easy to launch it on your own and re-launch it if it fells on the water. We don't have very big waves here. I am 65kg and I have an F-one trax gold edition board (135*39). What kite would you recommend me buying so I can go kitesurf on almost any given condition?

I also have a flexifoil all in one bar and I was wondering if Griffin kites fly well with this bar. Or do I have to get the Griffin bar?

Sorry for all those questions. I would really appreciate some help.

I have used ION for some time and it is not a beginner kite. If you want Flexifoil try Proton (go for 12m), or if any other brand, try to read reviews and check their page for what model fits to beginners. Usually it is a bowkite...

I have tried North Rebel, Cabrinha Crossbow, Naish Helix, Liquid Force Havoc and F-one bandit, and can recommend them all.

Thanks for the respond mariod2. What are your thoughts on Griffin kites? I am seriously thinking about buying on soon.

I am a total newb as well only had about 6 hours on the water, just got my griffin in the mail a few days ago, its a 9m 2012. Have no idea how it flys but from what i have read they are pretty good just unknown.

sorry bro, have never had a chance to try a Griffin in Scandinavia. Hard to find.

I have a 7m Griffin and am very happy with it. I replaced the one-pump tubes with longer ones, as the valves can rip on a hard crash when kite deforms. The leading edge seams could stand a little more reenforcement (on 2010). Self launches on beach tend to be hard on seams, so if you can get assisted launches, it would be better. I had to play with the angle of attack too. The pigtails were not quite right.

The 7m Griffin flies really well. I love flying it. Always have fun on it. Mine needed a little adjustment though.

It seems that the 2013 Griffins will be out soon. I will probably wait for it. However if anyone has an inexpensive and good beginner kite to recommend, I am open to suggestions.
