Hi, me and my girlfriend are searching for a place that works good in january.

We have two or three weeks to spent from the 7ht of that month ( second week ).

We exclude southafrica because I think the conditions are too hard for my girlfriend; we would like also seen Brazil, but I don't know if the wind is okay for that period ( I mean everyday like in november ).

So......any advice for a place with steady wind almost every day and hot flat water for freestyle??? :thumb:

Thanks to everybody!!! :bye:

Sta away from Brazil in January! I went last year in February (close enough) and the wind absolutely sucked! :lame1: If you want a kitesurfing mecca in January, I would recommend the Canaries. The weather is not quite hot but it is decent with a good wetsuit. Now the wind ... PHENOMENAL! :thumb: I really like Fuerteventura and Tenerife comes highly recommended from some some of my buddies who have been there! :surf: Check these guys out ... http://www.sportbay.com/Kitesurfing They are new but have some pretty sick deals near some of the best spots around the islands. They also have a bunch of spots all over the world. Hope this helps!

Brazil is good in January but you have to stay North.Look up Prea and jericoacoara in January you should be riding a 7 meter most days, am guessing Kitesurfingsam was riding further South where the season ends earlier.

Living on the canaries I am afraid I cannot agree unconditionally with the "phantastic" wind conditions. At least not in jan/feb. Yes, we do get very good conditions even in winter but it is no way as dependable as during the summer months when we have 30knots every day, 100% !

You can get one-two week periods with poor winds during the winter months but I would say that on average you have about 50% sailable days when the easterlies are on. If you like SUP or surf though you are pretty much set for 100% days on the water. The winterswell is very consistent.

As for island selection: Fuerteventura is definitely the overall best of the canary isles for general watersports. More wind on Gran Canaria but a poorer selection of beaches.

If you want the high wind in January you will have to go further south where the NE trades move for the winter: Cape Verde islands. In the winter they have the same conditions that we get in the summer.

No need to rule out SA, check out Langebaan which is about an hours drive north of Cape Town. Shark Bay is 2km worth of warm, waist deep, flat water lagoon which is perfect for learning on!

Check out Mui Ne, Vietnam. Its far to go but you would have an awesome time! I will be returning this year.(Just booked my ticket a couple hours ago for $1060CAD return) January is the best month there and I rode my 9m daily and 7m when it cranked.
Food is great!, super inexpensive eveything, no wetsuit, and a decent night life .
Also check out La Ventana on the Baja. I was a bit torn choosing this year so next year is Baja. Need a shorty wetsuit there. Both places can count on wind in January. Both are Thermals so its generally consistant. Water is not flat_______ a bit more chop--------- but not big waves unless you're after that and then theres a great spot.
Let us know what you find!

this year January in Brazil was fantastic!

Depends all on the rain...but normally January is goo enough for 70% of wind...and barely any people ;-)

Otherwise Asia or Caribbean!
