RSX is taking legal action against ISAF

RSX is taking legal action against ISAF

we have been informed that the International RS:X Class Association Ltd is taking legal action against the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), based on the fact that ISAF has selected Kiteboarding and not Windsurfing as Olympic sailing event for the Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

We feel shocked that an international class, being bound by ISAF constitution, rules and regulations, is even considering legal action against the world governing body because of a decision that has been taken in a democratic process and in full accordance with the defined decision making processes of ISAF .

Initiating legal action in the middle of the Olympic Games might damage not only the performance of the affected sailors but also the reputation of sailing in general.

The International Kiteboarding Association is fully aware of the ongoing discussions about Olympic Events and Equipment and is respecting ISAFs internal processes.

What do you expect from a manufacturer monopoly?
Neil Pryde is not going to give up! :cash:
Never mind that the RSX is a dated design that never caught on with most windsurfers....

Doing this during Olympia is not a good timing.

And doesn't kick this out windsurfing for ever?

Not only RS:X never caught on with windsurfers. It was clear from day one that the only board to consider for olympics was formula, half the weight and very popular between racers. The problem was "wich formula", i.e. which brand. But it was, I think, a false problem: are all the tennis player using the same raquet during olympics? Are all the runners using the same brand shoes during the olympics? And so what? There are strict rules about formula boards specifications, that was all they actually need to select formula as the olympic class. Someone told that the olympic board was a board that can be used with 4/5 knots if necessary. Another false problem: 4/5 knots are not enough for windsurfing, can't race in these conditions. Can you ski without snow during winter olympics? RS:X was an announced mistake. No wonder windsurfing is no more an olympic sport!

Who is RSX anyway?
As I understand RSX is a type of equipment manufactured by Pryde Group.. not an organisation!

sounds like someone is is throwing their commercial dummy out of the pram.

i was under the impression that course racing was added as a new sport and windsurfing was dropped because it was no longer relivent, but the two decisions werent linked.

Politics.

The Finn class of sailing is beloved by ahem how do you say it, husky males in the sailing world that got their start as large "rail meat" lads, and they won't give it up for some skinny guys with a pole and surfboard. Same goes for the two person dinghy the 470, an over elaborate and over technical sailboat, the 49er, a fairly fast skiff for a monohull. Not to say the old classes aren't fun but they are incredibly obsolete.

There are only three decent sailing events in 2016,

1) laser -- fun and easy to relate to <--- should be the only monohull event
2) kiteboarding -- best sport ever
3) mixed two person multihull nacra 17, a very nimble and fast catamaran, lot of fun to sail, pretty advanced boat

Every other event should be cut for more cats and windsurfing.
