Hi mate,

Kiting TT Shin Monk [with the Gorilla graphic- yes yes yes...])
Pads/straps - Yes
Board leash - NO, never...
Whitewater with wind side-onshore - Yes
Wind - around 20 knots on 9m Epic Screamer

I kited towards the beach to move over to the lagoon, crashed into a small wave in front of me when I looked backwards at the big wave approaching me, fell over the board so the board was behind me, big wave coming, BANG and seeing stars...

Cheers

yes i've have hadthe board smack me in the head in the waves. i had this deep indentation at the base of my helmet near my spine. that hit could have killed me or rendered me a paraplegic if i wasn't wearing a helmet.

so.... helmets for this white man. allways. without exception.

Yup... it's very very simple.

One word:

Helmet.

I have a helmet that has a hole in it the shape of one of my fins.
I also have a scar where the fin after going through my helmet cut my head.

If I did not have the helmet the fin could have done way more damage.

And I was not even using a leash... never do.

Not only do I wear a Helmet, but I wear a full cut kayaking helmet.

What people really need to understand is that after a good blow to the head
you can drown in no time at all. A helmet will dramatically reduce the chances of that happening.
