How to Transport a Mako King on a flight ??

Hey guys,

Looking for you opinions on travel bags ? I'm going away soon and want to pick up a new one before I go, last time I used a wakeboard bag and it was really tight ,

I live in Canada, NS to be exact . I'll most likey be traveling with 2 kites and 2 board, One is a spark 140 , and the other is a Mayko king , 165 , Do they make bags this big ? the kites will be a 15 and a 10

Two things I'm looking for , is light weight bag , as weight on flights sucks, So wheels arent necessary ,

Has to be somewhat manageable to carry , shoulder straps would be key,

Give up on the light idea - you want protection for your gear and wheels. I use a check-in bag that has back-straps so I can drag and man-handle the board bag around; it usually weighs about 30kg.

+1 - take the fins off both boards and the straps off the King. The 140 will sit on top of it in a surfboard bag and you can choose from a variety of padding thicknesses and costs.

I once wrapped a board in a towel and then used packing tape to hold it all together. Board arrived fine and I used the towel at the beach...

I know the Mako King is a 165, but due to its shape it might fit in there at an angle. I can check it out in a few weeks when Dave comes down for his Florida demo.

I've done some flights with my mako with fairly minimal protection- super easy method but your results may vary.

The edges are the most vulnerable part since dings are going to lead to delam issues, so I took an inner tube and stretched it around the whole edge and then taped it in place. Pads and fins came off, handle stayed on to make it convenient for everyone. The concave and tape keep the scuffing down on the bottom sheet, the top sheet is pretty tough - it's worked out fine for me 6 times.

I guess I'm kind of trusting that Joe baggage handler is going to have a little respect for my ride - I'm just like that. Also it was pretty noticable that with the straps pads and fins off it was pretty light, to where just dropping it wouldn't probably hurt it, you would have to really sling it into something to damage it.

I have traveled south from Canada with my Mako King (stripped down) in a snowboard bag (West Jet) without any problems. My other bag is a hockey bag. I put my kites in suck down bags and at least one is carry on. I am always under the weight restrictions (clothes optional).
