I find it pretty easy to release knowing that you are able to open it with only one finger and with a fully extended arm, which is a position allowing very little strength.
The way you were describing it I thought the QR was hard to open!?
I use to have a QR from an other brand that tended to open by itself due to vibration during the riding and I found that very dangerous as it was releasing by itself and putting me in bad situation! A bit of resistance is a good thing in my opinion! Just my two cents!
About the kite, it happened to me with two of my kites, two different brands, but they had a lot of life behind them and pretty beat up!
Yours looks pretty beat up too, even the pain is coming off! I guess too much sun, sand, salt water......etc!
Now I take real good care of my kites, specially packing them, and nothing like that happens anymore!
Are you seriously that stubborn? Open it with one finger? Huh?
Well a video tells more than 1000 words and every half way intelligent person sees there is a problem with that QR. A QR needs to open easily and not with heavy forces.

Regarding the struts- who cares what happened to your other 2 brands and how hard you were beating them up (or the students of your school). We are talking about this Epic kite.
And no- this kite or the struts were not beaten up or given a hard time. The paint is peeling off very easily. The paint is not peeling off the canopy so how would you explain it is peeling off the struts?

Edit: I do not care about the peeling paint (which I'm sure is because the struts expand and contract while in- and deflating, and they were most likely painted while they were not expanded). The broken struts are one of the issues I have with Epic and their so called customer service. And no- I do not store my kites in a bag or tightened up. They are laying very lose in my spare bedroom.

Go on raving your Epic kites (or your sales will go down further).

Stubborn? this is the first time I am talking about this! How can I be stubborn yet????
I did ask you nicely to post a video and gave you my two cents on a nice manner, so make sure you keep polite and respectful Caesar! You kind of sound like a very angry crazy person beating up his computer keyboard right now! No need for that, we are just talking about a kite!

Yes we are talking about EPIC kites, but to be able to talk about YOUR problems I had to bring up my two other brands kites as it never happened to any of my EPIC kites, but DID happen to other brands I own!
If you don t care about other customers stories/point of view, why are you posting it on a public forum instead of keeping it private between you and EPIC thru email??
About sales, not sure what you are talking about? Do you?

Anyway, as I was trying to find a reason for those struts breaking, not getting against you, just having a rational thought about it and to answer Westozzy, most of the place I use my kites( and I think it would apply to Caesar as it looks like he is riding mostly in Brazil) are very sunny and water is very salty.
Kites that get wet and then dry like that get crystallised. You can often see white stains on the LE and struts due to this hard salt formation!
It then damage the strut where you fold it, and we usually fold it in 3 segments! Those are the weak spots!

Now it comes to the debate of rinsing your kite with fresh water of not, but this is an other story!
There is a thread called *Washing kite after use* if I remember well.

Well it s time for a relax morning surfing session to get again from all this anger!
Hope your day is gonna be as good as mine!

Hi guys,

Tell me what to do, please:

I have an Epic Kite 3G V2 (Renegade 2012). It is my very first one, bought in Playa del Carmen.

Unfortunately, I have already had a pretty scary situation with it: the quick release did not work. It was not funny at all, especially not being a beginner, I was getting pulled with great force into the water and smacked around while I was trying calmly to figure out what was happening: "shit, am I doing something wrong?" "how is this possible?!" "oh my god it is stuck" "oh my god I am not strong enough". I pushed with all my strength, and, phew, after a while it finally released.

Back at shore, I really wanted to know what had happened. I did not rule out the possibility of me being a beginner and girl. Those things do not help, they say. So, I asked my boyfriend to test it, he did and he had the exact same thing, though for him it opened obviously quicker, as he had more strength. However, he ensured me that something was definitely wrong with the QR.

I do not get scared easily, so I kinda foolishly ignored this issue for some time, that is, until it happened again. It is highly uncomfortable and I do not even want to know what could happen if one day that damn thing does not open at all.

Now, I see that it is a common issue! So, what is the problem and what should I do? Throw out the thing, buy something safer? Is there anything that I can do about this? Get my money back? Or one that works?

Thank you.

Hello Miss.TSOP and sorry about your bad experience about the CL. Did you or your boyfriend ever sent me an email concerning what happened to you? Can you let me know where you purchased the BAR from? It will be nice to email all this info to: dimitri@epickites.com or get in touch with the dealer you purchase the KITES and BAR from, so we can help you resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Also the chicken loop we have been using for 3 years now is from another kite company until we get our own Chicken Loop which should be out very soon.
This is our new EPIC CHICKEN LOOP that we have been working on for at least 2 years in case you want to know.

A failing QR or poorly designed safety system could cost you your life. If you are not happy with the safety system dont use it, especially if you are a beginner since you are ALOT more likely to end up losing control of your kite and need to pull it. To be fair to epic there are other brands on the market with slightly dodgy safety systems, although most of the big brands have good systems now. Best safety system by far is North in my opinion (they also probably have the best build quality). Unless you are getting a totally amazing deal or have a particular reason for buying a kite made by a smaller company (you are looking for a specialist kite like the Switch Method or Epic Screamer), I would stick to the more established brands.

if you can´t handle a randomly functional QR I would say get a new one asap

and i mean something really different that works, not the same old.

Hi,

I'm very happy you did not get harmed!
That's what I did (after not getting any working replacement from Epic)- I bought a North QR and that works like a charm.

Cheers

Miss.TSOP, I do agree with UKSurf about only few companies in the market having a great Chicken Loop such as the one he mentioned. This is the reason why we have been working for 2 years now trying to come up with our own EPIC Chicken Loop which I mentioned before should be out very soon.
Now concerning your issue with your CL. If you have a problem with your CL please get in touch with your dealer where your purchased your EPIC kite and Chicken Loop so he can take care of you and resolve your issue. This is the reason why we have incredible dealers so they can take care of you as soon as possible and get you back in the water in no time. From my understanding in the blog you started, you love the EPIC kites?
Any way check the video of our new EPIC Chicken Loop. You will see that even a dog can engage our new Chicken Loop.
