hey guys and girls
new to this forum and i know this has probably been done to death but i wanted to get a chat going about englands best and worst kitesurfing spots, sea side and inland.
also looking to go to a few more places with flat water if any one has any suggestions.

A lot of England's best kitesufing spots are in Wales or Scotland

any one kitesurfed whitstable?
lookinngn to go up that way as the wind in off shore on the south coast all this week.
was just wondering if there are any restrictions etc that any new comer to the area should know about.

I have not kitesurfed Whitstable for many years so I do not know about any restricitions that may have come in to play in the last 5 years. But as a spot it's not bad at all. The water looks horrible due to the clay I guess, there is some current but the big factor to watch (like most of UK I guess) is the tides. You want low to mid tide. At high tide you don't have any beach and there are groins, it just doesn't work. Also I remember at low tide, I wiped a board (and nearly myself) out on a rock so be a little careful. The nice thing is on low tide you get some good flat water and plenty of space. Added bonus being good oysters and beer to be found after.

I kite Whitstable a lot when it's northerly. Just by the shop you can park on seafront, at low tide there is a shingle bank that is about half a mile long we call the street. Leaves flat water on the downwind side. Also a couple of miles up the shore eastwards at tanker ton there is a place called the point, gets a nice waist/chest high wave at high tide in a NE that I'll be on next few days.

Lots of little bays between Whitstable and margate.

as for the cold, not a bother, i used to sail in winter, fool hardy but a lot of fun, just have to keep trying to throw tricks to keep warm.

A very good beach in south east for flat water on a NE is Greatstone. Huge expansive beach that has small waves as it is round the coast from the SW swell and there are no sand banks to create the wave. It is usable on all tides apart from spring high when you need to leave about an hour either side. It is a very flat beach so low tide is a long way out, about 15min walk so can be good to avoid a spring low!
