Sellers that do not post prices, Why? (call for prices)

I have always wonder why some kite/W/S shop do not post the price of the gear they sell on their website? I am somewhat of a compulsive buyer, and if their price would have been posted back in ~2002, well they would had made lots of money with me.. Instead, I go somewhere else, and become loyal to that someone else shop.

When looking for house or condo by curiosity or to buy, those ones that do not have prices on the add are skip right away. I will never call them, ill skip to the next house/condo.

When looking for used cars, those ones without price and/or kilometers means bye bye, Im not even bothering, there are so many more ad to look.

There must be an advantage of not advertising the price on stuff people sell, but seriously I dont see it, does anybody know why some people do this? (Kites, Car, Housing, Furniture, Whatever)

Other than not wanting to sell (which is not an advantage) I dont see the point.

Email for price, call for price...

Yes! But this is much bigger than kiting, as you identify with cars, houses etc...

Some marketing theory suggests trying to prevent a product from becoming a commodity which is traded only on price.

But especially a used car or home is a product on such a big market who is going to waste time looking at it if the seller is unreasonable our it doesn't fit the buyer's budget?

There is so much ad saturation that it is very easy to go to the next ad without even giving a second thought. It would have to be a very special and unique offering.

It is probably because manufacturers set a minimum advertise price MAP that the item must be advertised at (full retail) and the person wants to offer it below that price, but can't say so publicly.

I am a dealer for several brands and noticed other dealers advertising the same products for less than MAP. To me it seems like if you do enough volume with them, they do not care.

What I love is the shops (i.e. "responsible retailers") who use Craig's list and Ebay acting like they are a regular kiter selling something out of their garage.
"Oh no, we don't sell to anyone who hasn't had lessons."

Yeah right!

I have the answer.

It's the real answer.

You'll be blown away when I tell you the real reason why some sellers insist on doing it that way.

But it's just too fascinating to post here.

Give me a call, and I'll tell you.

yeah we have one guy here who literally spams CL with advertisements...ehh ads. Mostly for surfboards, but still. If I'd call that number and some shop picks up I would be pissed off.

If its new the price showing theory should be good.
Second hand, showing the price means nothing as you cannot assess the value of an item without more info and ultimately seing it.
