Hi,
I'm looking for a kite to fill the gab between my Rebel 12m and the Dyno 18m.
One Idea was, to pick a 2012 Dyno 15 right in the middle. Another possibility could be to look for a 2010 Rebel 16 or the 2011 Dyno 16.
I don't want to do racing with the kites. I just want them for freeriding and jumping with hangtime.
Did someone here tested two or all of these kites against each other?
Can you give me some help for making my decission?

I rode all the big kites mentioned.

The dyno 16 is too close to the 18.
I have dyno 18 and Rebel 2010 16.
Works excellent. My recommendation.

Don't liked the 15 so much, it has less hangtime.

I read some comment here about the 2012 Dyno 15m that where not convincing me.
If the 16 Dyno is to close to the 18, what makes the rebel 16 the choice for you?

... I've got both 12 and 18m like you and got the 14m Rebel 2012 to bridge the gap. The 14m is my high-ish wind kite and slots nicely in the middle for both surfboard, raceboard and twin tip riding. If I want to push either kite further in the upper range I use a smaller twin tip.

Hmmm, I have almost the same issue. Need to fill the gap between the Dyno 18m and Rebel 11m. Not a problem if I use the raceboard to add to the low end of the rebel 11, and twintip on the high end of the 18. If I want to ride one board or the other, I'll need a kite in between. I'm thinking Rebel 14m as well.

Some people have 11m as their largest kite, I need 2 kites larger than 11

Haha, my gap is even bigger. I own the 10m Blade Trigger 17m Blade Fat Lady.

If I had more money I would add a kite in between. But I don't. I can ride the 17 till 20 knots while feeling safe. But I can ride my 10m from 13-14 knots so the gap is not that bad.

From 16-17 knots I'll prefer the 10.

If I were you I'd get a Rebel 14.

+1 - Currently I've got a big gap from my 10m OR Rise to my 17m Blade Fat Lady. A 12m would be all I need to make it work without a 2nd thought. I don't think you need a kite between a 12m kite and a big light wind kite.

I ride the same strap surfboard Whip 5'7"x18 5/8 Quad...with those 2 kites

The Core Riot XR2LW 19M ...usually in winds of 8kn to 14kn.....but can still manage it til 18kn

My next go to kite is 2011 Rebel 12M.....usually in winds of 12 to 20kn...but still manage it til 24kn

I had last year a Dyno 18...that i used for same light wind and managed it til 16kn..& still had no gap

In any case if you only want to go for a North kite for your gap....

.....16 Rebel (2010) like Toby suggested....i use to own a 14 Rebel myself.. & too close in size to 12

You only gain "one knot" of low end with a 14 compared to a 12

Otherwise take a look for a 15M....of an other brand..like maybe Core Riot XR2LW15M

By the way my wife goes from CoreXR2 17M directly to her Rebel 10M..also no gap w/surfboard

Depends where you ride and what you ride i am sure

I think we are missing the most important thing - what is your weight ?

As I agree with the other posters - that you dont really need anything in between if you are typical weight (80kg - 175lbs).

Where kites bigger than 12m2 are for super light condtions only, and another ballgame.

Meaning - we are talking winds around 10 knots maybe, where the really big kites works fine, and having a big gap is "easy" in such light wind

Whereas - if you are above 200lbs, your "good freestyle" kite will more likely be a 15m2 and not the 12m2 like for the average weight kiter.
So here it makes sense to fill the gap between the 12 and 18, just like us "average" riders that fills the gap between a 15/16 and 9m2 with a 12, as an example

The thing is - that at some point we reach a size where anything bigger is not "feeling good" the same way - and used for light wind (also awesome fun, but I think you all know what I mean).

If that made any sense ?

Your decision of course - and maybe you know exactly that you need this size

But would just try to clarify, like the others in this thread, that above a certain size and in light wind - you can easily have a huge size step without problems.

the main fact is heavy: 105kg/230lbs
With that weight I often stood at the beach when my friends started to have fun.
Until now, I had the choice between 9, 12, 14. But 12 and 14 are to close. This is why I thought about a 15m in between the 12 and the 18.
Because of the short days and the temperature, the next kite sessions on water are to far away and I have more time than I want to look for 16m rebels...

Time to ask more questions:

Did anyone tried to fly a Core Riot XR2LW15M with the north bar?

For me as a 100% tube kite rider another rigid question is growing up more and more:
What if I take a Flysurfer Speed3 15m to fill this gap...
That mashine could be great on land too. I'm concerned to destroy me tubes while land boarding.
Perhaps this question is complicated enough to open a new topic...

Who was/is a convinced tube kiter and took the time, to realy try and understand ram airs and can tell me why he/she startet to use this kites or don't whant to use them anymore?
