How to keep wax on a tuflite surfboard?

Hey Guys anyone figured out how to keep wax on your tuflite surfboards? Love my tufflites but the wax is pushed forward in under 1 hour of riding and I am slipping off the board and busting my @ss.. I do not like traction pads for my front foot and I feel that wax gives me a much better connection with my surfboard... Anyone else having these problems or anyone found a fix? thanks ted B

Hey Ted,

I have a 5'10 Xanadu in Tuflite and I find that making sure I have it free of salt/sand when I put the first bumps on helps immensely. If you can, leave your board in the sun for 20 mins to melt the wax, then wipe it off completely. Then take a paper towel and use some rubbing alcohol to completely clean the top of your board.

Now, Wax using a correct temp wax, and don't push too hard when setting down the first bumps. Light pressure will help create those big dimple/bumps you want, pushing will just smear it. After that just apply a topcoat quick before each session and keep your board our of the sun.

Hope that helps,

DH

Use a GREAT base coat. I like the sticky bumps...or maybe even the bubble gum. I apply one layer of basecoat, before make square patterns.

For top coats it depends a little on what you do, but definitely get the right temperature.

If you like sticky waxes, then use either bubble gum gu (my favorite) or sticky bumps punt..the punt is a lot harder to get right. If you put too much of this, it will be a pita....
If you do not care for sticky use regular sticky bumps or regular bubble gum. I would maybe even consider going on level warmer on the bubble gum (if you can).

If you get a great layer of basecoat set right, you should be fine. Like above apply a little layer of top coat before each session...most people that have the same problem you do, usually do not use basecoat...

Once you get the buildup right it will be a lot less problematic.

I've tried pretty much every single wax out there.
:-)

For a slightly different option I've used NSI Clear Grip traction sheets. They stick on to the board really well and provide a textured surface that won't affect your board feel like an EVA pad would. You can add some wax to the Clear Grip - if you do you don't need much and it lasts a long time.

On my longboard I don't wax the Clear Grip as my booties stick to it really well.

My oldest application is 2yrs old and I replaced one sheet that I didn't apply very well. The rest look like new.

The Clear Grip also seems to help prevent heel dents and doesn't obscure the top deck finish/graphics of your board if you care about that. Stays cleaner than wax, doesn't get messy and doesn't have to be reapplied.

I've heard you can buy this stuff in bulk rolls for cheaper cost per sq foot, but I haven't found it in rolls yet and it lasts so long I'm not too unhappy to pay for it in packs of 8 or 12 sheets.

My application tip is to clean the board really well with rubbing alcohol and round the edges of each sheet before you stick them down. This prevents the corners from peeling.

Had the same issues....
1. Use base coat
2. Don't choose the correct temp like some are saying here. Go with 1-2 temps higher than you would if you were surfing. For example, if the water is calling for cool, choose warm or tropical wax. The warmer the wax temp, the harder it will be. Base coat being the hardest.
3. Try riding lighter on your feet, keeping the board flat.
4. You will still get the wax build-up, just not as frequent. During long sessions, having a wax comb on shore helps. Just comb the wax back to the bare spot. :D

hey Guys
Thanks so much for your answers and Time!!!!

I have always cleaned the board very well and have tried many combos of waxes and different temps. But It really does not matter. with in 30-45 minutes the wax moves and my board gets slippery ..... So Far wax in my pocket is my only answer... I am a heavier guy in the 205lb range and I ride my strapless board very aggressively so light feet on the board probably not a option... I think my foot causes friction ,friction causes heat and heat makes the wax move...
I like the clear Traction Idea. Also looking at a spray texture which may help... I was thinking about sanding the deck to see if that helps anyone else tried this?

I really love the way a PU board feels and the wax stays on the board much better but I break them way to easily...

Love my stretch boards just need to find a way to keep wax on them!!! thanks again

traction pade like versatraktion etc. although they are pretty good are not as food as wax imo. I use them for the nose of my big SUPs where they will not need wax, but also not as much traction as the rest of the board.

If you are into this, there are a few pads that have insane amount of hold.
