Whats Best Golf Bag (Kite bag really!)

Postby Chillbay » Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:40 pm

Hi, can you guys recommend a good golf bag to use on kiting trips, want to avoid extortionate flight charges. Looking at carrying 2 kites and 1 x 136cm kiteboard + small amount of associated kite gear, thanks for any help :thumb:

Hi Chilllbay,
I'm sure no matter what people write back with you will get others saying the complete opposite.
Personally I have both the Dakine Club Wagon and the Dakine SX bag. I have travelled with multiple airlines and have never had to pay for oversized luggage. The same goes for my two friends who bought the same bags.
The only problem I have had with them is the SX bag internal compression straps anchor have given out. Before my next trip I will need to have them reinforced.

Your board is small enough that you may be able to go to a golf store and buyt the biggest golf bag they sell and still get two kites inside.

Regardless of the bag you choose, I would highly recommend picking up the Dakine Kite Compression bags and use them instead of your normal kite bage. They will save you a lot of space. I believe that they are $15USD.

Isn't a proper golf bag more expensive?

Im looking for one as well.

Slingshot's does look pretty great. It can fit multiple boards without scratching each other. Up to a 5'2" surfboard and 152cm board too.

I've had the NSI, I have the Naish one now. Both works well. NSI is one large room. Naish has more pockets and an extra zipper you can open if you have a slightly longer board.

I have just gotten back from Cuba and the NSI bag was great. I was able to pack 2 kites, a 138x40 board, 2 bars, harness, tools, rash gaurds and various other small pieces of gear and was under the 20kg allotment for golf gear. I had no issues at the counter and on the way back they didn't even weigh the bag. The NSI bag is solid and has lots of padding to keep your gear safe. I honestly don't think that you could go wrong with any deciever bag but the NSI is awesome.

I use the Mystic Golf Bag and I am very satisfied. It has small wheels. It weighs 10 pounds so you can put 2 kites + your board and you will still be under the 50 pound (23kg) limit for a Golf bag .

It is the third time that I use it to go to Cuba and they never asked any questions. I don't say nothing. Last time they told me : Nice Golf bag; have fun kiting :-)

Any golf bag you find today in the market is more than 10 pounds, given the choice of a 140 golf bag (to fit the 136 board) it will weight something like 7.5kgs.

In most cases, 2 kites (w/o kitebag)+ 1 board + harness + clothes AND the golf bag will be around 25kgs, just pass the mark and should be OK with most airliners.

I travel a lot with the golf bag, and i must say golf bag today are all rubbish, none of them can last. So my recommendation is to go for the cheapest you can find, if you travel a lot like me, then replacement money , if you don't , then it is not necessary to buy so call good bag.

* The wheel is of good quality- but not the pin; the plastic protection is good - but not the rivet to put them in place; the 600D poleyester surely can take some scratch here and there - but the zip gave up, etc, etc

The Litewave Designs kiteboard golf bag works great! That is what I use for traveling.
