The Man that touched the sky (2011) Full Length Documentary
Lewis Crathern, 4x British Kitesurfing Champion and known worldwide for his pioneering jump technique after his jump over Brighton Pier last year, is now giving us the opportunity to look behind the scenes. The 30 minute film documentary is an in depth look at the pioneering kite jumping extraordinaire Lewis Crathern preparing for the biggest jump of his life over Brighton Pier, an exclusive look into Lewis' life showing never seen before footage with him preparing for his infamous jump months before it happening. The documentary touches on the emotions, physical strength training, precision weather monitoring and pure skill to achieve such a dramatic result. Lewis' pier jumping achievement created a frenzy of media reaching beyond the realms of Brighton to be a phenomenon of global explosion. The film documentary also explores why Lewis is searching for new challenges outside the competition circuit and how he uses kitesurfing and wind energy as a tool to teach others whilst increasing eco awareness.

The guy jumps over a public Pier with people walking around on it. Irresponsible and putting the public at risk for his personal gain. What an ass.... He even says in the video that he has had lines break when he's in the air At 23 minutes into the video you can see that their are people strolling around on the Pier. He could have killed someone. If someone wants to pull off a stunt and risk their own lives... that's one thing... risking others is bullshit.

Fred-dont be a dick.there were at least two camera crews on the pier and everyone knew what was going on.
Remove your butt plug for an instant and you'll see this was perfectly planned and executed !

Not being a Dick... you are.
Look closer at the video 24:40.
You can clearly see a couple strolling down the pier not even looking at the Ocean or the kiter.
They did not have permission to do the stunt from the Pier Owner.
What is worse from down on the water the kiter had no way of knowing if the Pier was clear to jump
I have been involved with real stunt work and know several Hollywood stunt men and world record holders. Robbie Maddison and Evel Knievel. None would do something as half assed as this was from an organizational and safety standpoint.
The kid is obviously very skilled as well as lucky, but he needs to clean up his act.
Who gives a shit? What were they supposed to do, film him jumping out in the water and do a graphical representation of the pier to see the height of his jump? Not exciting. Close the entire pier for the hours he was waiting for the right conditions? Impractical. Get permission from the authorities to jump the pier? Bahahahahahaha, never in a million years. Worse case scenario, he completely, totally and irrevocably botched the whole thing, hit a shark right as he was initiating the jump, broke a line, had a stroke and got struck by lightning while convulsing in mid-air... He smacks down the oblivious couple, and breaks every bone in his body. It would be YouTube gold!
Bottom line, he went for it, cleared it by two and a half miles, and it was epic.
He must get his pants custom tailored, what with the size of his balls.
At some point, the whole Fire Marshal Bill thing gets old and you have to appreciate when someone lets loose and goes for broke. How many Jackie Chan movies would we be enjoying if he didn't go for it? Rally racing is huge in Europe, and people stand on the outside curb on sharp turns. Are they supposed to stop the races so they can shoo them away? It's not practical. Sometimes they get smooshed, and it makes for good YouTube videos.

Interesting story lots of planning and no permission, i like that, Hollywood stunts are bullshit. Everyday is different in the kite world there is always risk.
