GoPro 3 - fogging?

Postby Toby » Fri Dec 07, 2012 4:46 pm

going crazy with the fogging thing...using GoPro 1...I have to wait more to antifog it than riding...really annoying.

I have those stripes, I put it in the fridge etc...still fogs.

Anyone knows if GP 3 is better in that regard?

I suppose you have tried the desiccant strips (looks like white cardboard that you put inside the GoPro to absorb moisture and stop fog inside)? Did it not work?

You probably ride in much more humid places than I do.

don't put 'em in the fridge, just put the papers in the micro wave to make them ¨work!

Hi. Let the Go Pro in the fridge with the case open during the night, then, in the morning put the stripes over a cup of boiling water. Insert the stripes into the Go Pro case when It is still in the fridge and close It. It will works, granted :thumb: !
Best regards
Carlo

Does this happen with the 3 and not previous GoPros? I am about to get a 3 and wonder if I should not.

You're supposed to "bake" those strips in the oven every few sessions to dry them out. Holding them over boiling water? Say what? :-?

The desiccant strips absorb moisture that would otherwise condense on the housing and cause 'fogging' so it makes sense that the best way to use them (and the way that works very well for me here in humid Hawaii) is to bake them briefly to dry them out. I have a little countertop oven that works great. Then, keep them in a very dry place (an airtight container with some more desiccant beads in it - those 'chicklet' packets that some electronics are packaged with) until you use them.

Also, don't leave the GoPro housing open when it is not in use. Open it, remove the camera, and close it right back up. I have not had trouble with condensation since I started being more conscious of this stuff. Hope that helps!

Aloha
