Do you know how it compares to some of the competitors in terms of low-end and upwind ability?
Compared to the Nugget, Subwoofer... Or a freerace board like the sector
I had some rides on few LW surf board like the Nugget (I have a 2012), an Axon WTF 5'6" (had the 2013/14) Fone Fish 5'10" (had a 2013) Sector 54cm (tried my friend's board) Naish Bullet 5'0" (tried my friend's board). I did not tried the Subwoofer. In term of LW performance here is how I would rate them:
1- Airush Sector
2- Fone Fish 5'10"
3- Axon WTF 5'6" & North Nugget 5'
4- Naish Bullet 5'
While there is very little difference in LW performance between the #1 trought #3 there is a huge gap with the Bullet. To me, this is not a good LW surf board. But that being said, it is a really good and fun to ride surf. The construction also seem really nice. But if it is really mostly for LW, forget it. The Fone Fish I did not like it in medium to higher wind, certainly not a fun board compared to the Nugget or Axon WTF. The Sector 54 do not seem to start planning sooner then my Nugget but once it is going, you gain much more speed and goes upwind a bit better so the LW capacity is better. I have some serious repairs to do on my Nugget and I have decided to get an other LW surf board. I decided to get an other Axon WTF, this is very similar to the Nugget but I personally prefer it maybe just because of the sizing difference. The new 2015 Axon SB are made in Hawaii and can be custom made.
