Hey Shawn. The Speed 4 has a smaller aspect ratio (4.85 on the Speed4 vs. 5.8 on the Speed3), so it makes sense that there would be less cells compared to the Speed3. I have owned Speed 3s and Psycho4s and have a Speed 4 now. The upwind of the Speed 4 is better than the Psycho 4 but maybe a little less than the Speed 3. In short, the upwind on the Speed 4 is great!Shawn K wrote: If you go to the technical data on the Flysurfer website, the Speed 4 10 meter has less cells per length than the Speed 3 12 meter. That means that a Speed 4 12 meter will have even less cells per length unless they increase the number of cells for the bigger sizes. Usually less cells equates to a fatter profile which means the kite will sit further back in the window and have less upwind ability. The Speed 4 even has less cells per length than the Psycho 4, so does this mean that it will go upwind even less than the Psycho 4?
I was just wondering if anyone else has these concerns.
Looking at the technical details on the FS website, both the Psycho 4 and the Speed 4 (in sizes 8M and 10M) have 29 cells. Given that the Psycho 4 has a slightly smaller aspect ratio (4.5 vs. 4.85), I guess you could say that the Speed 4 has less cells per length. But, I really doubt there is a noticeable difference. Although I only have about 7 hours on my Speed 4 now, I can say it's a step up from the Psycho 4!Shawn K wrote:The Speed 4 even has less cells per length than the Psycho 4, so does this mean that it will go upwind even less than the Psycho 4?
Keep being excited, it's sure to be a great kite.Shawn K wrote:I have been really excited about the Speed 4 and am waiting for the 12 meter to come out.
They have not released the Speed4 in the larger sizes yet because, as I understand, it will not be just a scaled up "'bigger' version of the 8m & 10m. The aspect ratio will likely be higher, closer to that of the current Speed3's.Shawn K wrote:Hey can you explain what you mean when you say that the kite design changes slightly as the size changes?
