Hey guys,
I plan to visit Cabarete this summer (mid july to mid august). I was wondering if I should bring my North Nugget or my North Whip. The thing is that with the Whip, I must pay extra fees because of the lenght of the board. If the waves are big, I don't mind... but I dont want to waste my money.
Thanks in advance
Bruno

Do not expect big waves in the summer. The wave season for Cabarete is from November until April.

I live in Cabarete and just like Mitaka said, don't expect huge waves, although we always have some sort of waves because of the reef. I don't know anything about directional boards, so I can't give advice there. But it is windy season so bring your small kite! Here is an article I wrote on wind in Cabarete:

Cabarete and Encuentro have nice waves. Up to 2m I would say in summer.

Cabarete has decent sized wind-driven waves throughout the summer - mostly shoulder to head height. It's certainly a great spot for fun wave riding, even if the waves aren't exactly "epic". I don't really understand the Nugget vs Whip thing though: isn't the Nugget more a light-wind board?

Thanks guys for the infos!
The Nugget is a light wind weapon witch is fun in small waves... The whip is a small to medium wave surfboard. The thing is that I can save around 300 $ if I only bring the Nugget (5'5'') ... but I need my big 2 meters surfbag if I bring my Whip. If the head high waves are very rare in summer time, I think I'll go with my Nugget.
By the way, if I spend 34 days (mid-july to mid-august) do I need to bring my 17m Flite? I plan to bring my 6-8-10-13m Rebels. Summer is supposed to be the windy season.
Thanks! Cheers!

I can't speak to your personal preferences& you don't mention what size/weight you are, but the way I see it you're going to be over-boarded with something like the Nugget. The wind in the summer is 15 - 20 kts on a typical light day & mid to upper 20's on a typical windy day. I wouldn't want to be on a "light wind board" in those conditions. The waves are totally surfable on a smaller size wave board. I also wouldn't bother taking a 17m & unless you're quite small I probably wouldn't take a 6m. There are many kiteboarding Quebecers who have been to Cabarete - ask them what they think.

I dont understand it either - unless it is extremely low wind, and the Whip also being a "lighter wind" small wave board, why take the Nugget at all ?
Unless you are over average weight of course...
Peter
