Palma Sailing World Cup to include Kiteboarding

Postby Toby » Thu Jan 31, 2013 9:24 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofia MAPFRE, the first European ISAF Sailing World Cup of the 2013-2016 cycle, will include kiteboarding. The Palma organizers just confirmed to include kiteboarding as additional event with a 4 day racing schedule and an exhibition/demo to be held on the final day of the event, when the Olympic classes will have their medal races.

The schedule has been confirmed as follows:

April 1st: Registration
April 2nd: Registration till 12:00, Racing from 14:00
April 3rd till 5th: Racing from 14:00
April 6th: Exhibition / Demo Day

The International Kiteboarding Association is more than happy to secure the inclusion in this important event, as it brings another excellent opportunity to prove how kiteboarding can be included in the major ISAF sailing events.

The Palma event will take place just 3 days after the end of the IKA African Course Racing Championships, allowing sailors to attend both events with enough travel time in between, and to collect important points for the IKA world ranking within a short period. For overseas competitors it is a chance to take part in two high scoring events back to back to qualify for the upcoming IKA course racing world championships later in the year.

The events page will be updated accordingly and the amended Notice of Race as well as the registration link published as soon as available.
