Flysurfer Cronix 10 in small waves. A short video.

Postby haiku » Fri Aug 09, 2013 5:26 pm

Hello. Here’ a short video of my first test session with the Flysurfer Cronix 10 in gusty wind and small waves. Stable in the air, powerful and quite fast in the flight window, the bar feeling is something special a strange mix between a foil kite and a classic LEI. Lift and hang time were both excellent as well as the capability to ride waves even if it is not a dedicated wave kite like for example RRD Religion or Ozone Reo; both those kite are faster than the Cronix and overall better in waves, but they aren’t as good for big air and freestyle tricks. Thanks to the bridled trailing edge the tuning options are very effective. For this first test I rode an Hawaiian custom surfboard Kazuma Shibi 5,4.

Nice. I liked that. the single angle was a bit hard on the eyes after a while but you captured how the kite worked quite well.

Tell me have you used the Ozone C4. Can you compare the cronix to the c4?

What you are doing in the waves is very similar to my style of riding. (except i'm doing on a mutant and not a directional) Slash some waves boost off the wave lips... its what I love to do. So a kite that can hold its own in the waves and boost well is what I want.

I find my 10m c4 to be sweet but lacking abit in glide. and abit of bottom end . . . If I can find a kite that turns as nice as the c4 but has better glide i'll be a happy man. This cronix looks like it might just do that.

What do you think the top end of the 10m will be?

yes.... but it needs to be fast aswell. . . . . ... . . .. . . . .

I better not get too excited tho. I have to replace my 13m and my 15m before the 10m gets replaced.... 13 and 15 replacement is going to be EXPENSIVE.

Hi. Plummett, in small waves and gusty wind I love riding "strap in" and doing old style tricks. For this reason I still own three mutant/hybrid boards: the Naish Mutant 4,10 (still my favourite...). the RRD Toxic wave and the Advance Omega. Also the Naish Global 5,5 2011 (four fins setup) and the custom Kazuma Shibi 5,4 are very good in this way but both, obviously, can't cruise in reverse. Said that, I tried a couple of times the Ozone C4 2012 wich is totally different from the Flysurfer Cronix. Think about this: put into a blender an old Cabrinha Crossbow 2006, a Naish Park (that I really love), a Flysurfer Speed 3 (..simply amazing) and....voilà you have now a Flysurfer Cronix. Until today I've collected three sessions with the 12 and one with the 10 reporting the same impressions. First of all, jumping and hang time are very impressive. Being an high aspect kite cruising upwind is something special. The Cronix, even the 12, is very fast in the flight window and during a turn on a wave backstalling is not an issue. As I said the trim options are huge and not complicated at all. The hard settings, in sinergy with more arc, makes the Cronix very, very powerful. But what impresses me most is the bar feeling quite close to a foil kite especially in the soft bar setting. Overall I really love the Cronix for its range, versatility and special feeling :thumb: .
Cheers
Carlo

PS: I'm currently testing the Cronix for the website www.standuppaddling.it

Do you feel that the Cronix has a noticeably bigger range than the current LEI kites due to the trailing edge bridle?

Hi. Yes, indeed. The Cronix seems more powerful than LEI of the same size. Four days ago I was in the water with a short twin tip (Flyradical M 2013) and the Cronix 12. Initially the wind was blowing side/on shore from 9 to 13 Knots, but when I started the session suddenly dropped to 11 Knots. Too late to change board because I was ready to go and the beach totally crowded. So, a little bit skeptical, I decided to try. I powered the kite and....bang, I was planing with a decent upwind angle. Consider that a friend of mine was riding with a 16 mt. RRD Addiction and a freerace board! After 30 minutes I lost only a few ground but I was still able to do some air inverted tricks. Then the wind picked up again and other kiters with their 12s joined the party. IMHO, with the tuning set to maximum camber and bar pressure the Cronix 12 is more powerful than other LEI of the same size. I still don't know what is the limit in high wind but again, the tuning options are simply huge and in this regard the adaptive airfoil can make a big difference.
Cheers
Carlo
