Wave Riding on South Padre Island

Postby chilidip » Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:38 pm

Looking for a place to practice wave riding without crowds or reefs with gentle waves?

South Padre Island in the spring or fall is an awesome spot! We have warm water & winds March-April-May with unlimited beach breaks and 3 sandbars that run along our 23 mile coastline. It is pretty flat in between the sandbars making gybes relatively easy. The 1st sandbar the waves are only 2 foot... the 2nd sandbar usually 3-4' and on the outside on the 3rd it is often head high. We get both South and North winds allowing you to ride both front and backside. The surfers stick close to the S Jetty, so you don't have to worry about "speed bumps!" LOL

Here at SPI Kiteboarding, we really want to promote the thrill of wave riding. No matter if you ride a TT and boost off the kickers or want to learn strapless, we are here to guide you in the right direction. Get away from the "crowds" mowing the lawn at The North Flats. We have a great selection of handmade North Pacific, North and Liquid Force kite specific surfboards for rent & demo.

Don't know how to gybe or a bit nervous about riding in the waves?
SPI Kiteboarding offers guided downwinders and wave riding lessons.
Give me a call at the shop for more details & check us out on Facebook for weekly videos.
