Sorry, but seen it all?
You have no clue!
Buy my DVD and you will see so many new tricks you have never been seen before!!!
Eg: barefoot slide backroll!!!

And there is still sooo much more of amazing tricks possible...just not unhooked, but hooked for sure!
Time to get the young guys in to make those happen.
But, I know of some youngsters...these guys will change the sport...to something better!

Toby - jumping high and rotating twice to the left with flipping your board two times and bringing it around your back or jumping high, rotating three times to the right with bringing your board around your back and then back again with one flip is totally the same for me... but still more exciting than all those kids unhooked stunts.

Look, if people clan make movies about running and get others to watch them, then clearly the fault is not the material.

It's not the wakestyle vs airstyle, it's not the tricks, it's not the handle pass or slim.

It is the style though. Not the style of the kiter. The style of the director.

Inability to pace properly. There is nothing wrong with an intro scene but it can't be so long and drawn out you forget what the movie is about.

No emotional commitment to the characters. When we watch movies we want to identify with the characters. If you show a movie with your rider landing trick after trick after trick, it seems way too easy and we fail to identify with him.

Just poor framing. The viewer wants to see the kite and he wants to see the rider, sometimes these movies look like a transformer movie can you can't tell what is going on.

Now I am not a movie director or writer or producer, I'm just a movie watcher. I know a lot of amateurs are out there producing movies that are their first try at a big production. I'm just saying if you want it to look good, go watch some Hitchkock go watch some Warren Miller and think about what he did behind the camera to make it all work.

We need more effort from the guy behind the camera.

You want to see something amazing, watch the "All I Can" one more time from Sherpas. Don't just watch JP Auclair ski through town think about how the director and producer worked on this to make it exciting for the viewer.

This is what I am talking about.

a boardoff is a boardoff. a handle pass is a handle pass. hitting a wave is hitting a wave.
Sure, all the same.

For the ones into a style, there are many differences, though small. This is where every style pushes, and should be pushed.

But never forget this:

The skate video producers back in the early 000's were excellent at breaking boundaries and finding new tones and approaches...

Agree for sure about the F-One movies - so much more about the vision of the director for me.

Funny shit but yet so true!

The OP asks that it not be a style bashing thread but bashes a style.

Toby preaches inclusion and variety between passive aggressively bashing one style. Lets see how riveting three DVD's of variations on two tricks is. Better talk to the editing crew and get em to take out that sequence of your drive down to the lagoon! I'm pretty intrigued that you are so pumped on the return of king of the air. I have a feeling that small kites and nukin winds will look nothing like airstyle as you have coined it and will be interested to see what your tune is after its all said and done. Looks like the invite list features a lot of names from the wakestyle camp!

Jens is right on the money that the bulk of riders are lame, through and through!

None of this speaks to the quality of videos, and I cant help feel a bit sick that I have to agree with the OP. Too much of the same is simply that. Even Ruben busting the biggest we've ever seen gets criticism from some in this crowd!

Some of my favorite vids feature some of the simplest riding by "relatively" mortal riders. Some are of superhumans like Ruben or Hadlow, some are surf, some are wake, some are old school some are new. So far none are airstyle.

There are a TON of excellent kiting vids out there but like everything is gets diluted to homeopathic concentrations by the ever lovin heaps and heaps of garbage.
