Brazil in June/July

Hi
Can anybody advise me on what sort of strength wind I can expect in Brazil (Fortaleza / Jericoacoara area) at the end of June and beginning of July. I've been told it's the start of the windy season by a travel rep, but would like to get some unbiased first hand advice from somebody who has been there at that time. I'm a heavy guy, 115kg/18st so I need pretty strong wind (minimum18knts)
Also can anyone recommend any luxury 5 star hotels in that area to keep the non kiting wife happy?
Many thanks

Hi there,

wind will pick up with 18 to 25 knots ... at least in Cumbuco
it was like this last year !

June - July are already great months ... wind is getting better every day but beaches are still
empty.

Greetings from Cumbuco
M.

In Jeri the winds are a lot stronger and usually are around 30K.

I'm also interested in Brazil June/July. I heard that July can be very busy due to European holiday season..is this true and when does it start to get really busy?

The wind in June/July is great and as that is the beginning of the season there are not too many kiters here yet.

As for spots; I recommend a few places as each has there own little vibe. Although it might be difficult to find 5 star service. Places to consider:
Cumbuco; Barra Nova, Ilha do Guajiru; Jericoacoara

Hi,

Winds are stronger in Cumbuco and weaker in Jeri in June/July. It is getting stronger there later on in the year.

Wind is stronger in Cumbuco than Jeri....
First time I heard that and that is definitely not true in my experience
Kiting might not be the best setup in Jeri, but the wind is stronger (maybe too strong) for sure

So how much experience do you have in Brasil in June and July Nherbold? O how much total time do you have in Brasil?

Hello nherbold,

You need to read my sentence again: "Winds are stronger in Cumbuco and weaker in Jeri in June/July. It is getting stronger there later on in the year."

From September onwards it is usually stronger in Jeri, but beforehand it is stronger here in Cumbuco.

I don't give much about Windguru. You normally have to add 3-4knots onto the gust forecast to get the average wind. Check out this (and open both pages next to each other with 01.06. on top of the page

Cumbuco: http://tinyurl.com/abtmgkv

and

Jeri: http://tinyurl.com/bxs9xz9

You don't have to believe what you hear and what people say (or better assume). They are talking crap that you can't kite here in Cumbuco during the low season. What a load of rubbish. Wind is currently blowing 20knots and Windguru forecasts gusts of up to 16knots. So adding 3-4knots on top of that is usually true.
I hope that clears things up.

I'm going kiting now...

Cheers

Well, there is always wind! Along the coast ;-)

And if you only bring a 9 as biggest kite you might have days without riding.

With my 18 I can ride almost every day!

Tip: if lightwind, go to a lagoon...here you will have more power in the kite, since the ocean has 3 knots of current...
