Best way to smooth the landing during a big air

Postby MCMario » Tue Feb 05, 2013 3:28 am

I was watching the Red Bull king of air and they really slow just down before landing. I sometime crash after jumping high because of bad timing when throwing my kite forward just before the landing. I sometimes pull on the front hand too early or too late depending on the height or speed. I was wondering what's the best technique to smooth the landing.

Down loop the kite towards the end of your descent.

downloop or kiteloop...depends where the kite is when you come down.

If the kite is too far in front, kiteloop it and it becomes a helicopter loop (looping above you).
If the kite is too far behind the zenith, downloop it.

Both ways will help to get the kite above you again.

Saved me several times...instead of crashing hard, I landed soft as can be ;-)

best way not to biff a landing is get the editor to cut out all the bad crashes. Hey it worked for Red Bull, it can work for you too :-)

that kite makes a huge difference to. some kites float you. otheres do not and need a precise technique.

I quite enjoy coming down fast with the bar out then pulling in and redirecting hard just before landing.

timing.

bows and hybrids generally float you down more so you can pull bar in more than just whip kite forward

c kites tend to whip you up faster but also down faster so you got to rely on whipping the kite forward very ast just before you land to get some kind of transition going.

the bow/hybrid/c thing is getting greyer by the day nowdays tho, kites fly so different from each other

Also make sure your kite is trimmed correctly...

What do you mean by "in front"? You mean, it's shot to the edge of the window in the direction you're heading?

And downloop when you're sent the kite too far back on takeoff?

How much height do you need to pull that off?

Usually, I just make sure the kite is "overhead" and hold on till the last moment, then redirect hard. It's not always successful though :D

Oh and... is it just me, or do Crossbows not do much when looped?
