Ozone have been making kites for God knows how long....years. Why now do they introduce a 10m into what has always been an odd numbered set up? What s the thinking here?

One possible consideration:

Some have a full quiver of Edges: 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17. Some cover the range with 7, 11 and 17, wiith each size incremental decrease being about 35% smaller.

For someone who wants to economically exploit the full range including the new 19 though, without buying every kite, no combination works without leaving a big incremental discrepancy... unless they have a 10, which allows a reasonable compromise: 7, 10, 13, 19.

Cheers,
James

Good points James. But I think that is more of a side effect of the real reason:

Racing rules require that only 4 kites be registered, and from specific ranges: (small<9), (medium<11),(11≤ large≤15), (15≤x-large).

so to maximize competitive wind ranges vs. size limitations most normal sized racers would benefit from registering something like: 7, 10, 13, 17.
Hence a 10m.

The 19m is for bigger riders (like me) or extreme lightwind venues, where one might register something like 9, 11, 15, 19. or 9, 11, 13, 19.

Ya probably right. One side effect is its a perfect size for me at 76kg. The 11 was a little too big for those 20 to 25 knot days. So now I just run a zephyr until 17 ish, then the 10m edge comes out. Perfect size for freeride.

I have prob over 25 sessions on my 15 and for me my low end is about 12-15 mph and my top end is about 25-28 mph. My board is a xenon infra 138 and I weigh 188 pounds down from 215:). I generally ride at elevations over 6000 feet asl. I am not convicted that bigger is better. One time at the sandbar in the gorge I was the only one riding cause of light wind and i was on a 10 meter turbo diesel and a homemade plyboard. Others on 17's and surfboards were going nowhere. Another day I was on my 15 meter edge 2012 and flying circles around everybody but a 95 pound skinny chick. These were people on fly surfers with line extensions. The key to light wind IMO is a kite that turns fast to get you up to speed then builds good apparent wind. Can you say ozone edge!!! I have some videos of going big on the edge but all on snow. Check out "Jackson hole Kiters" on Vimeo. Jmo as a ozone rider!

I'm 80k with 128board and 25kns is not an issue on full power (no depower) with 15m. But get ready to fly when you throw the kite. lol

"ripped off the water" does not describe the action that is about to happen lol
