Two days ago the kite community on Isla Holbox was elated to be informed that we could kite on the Isla again. I had gone to Tulum for a few days of wave riding with a fresh south east wind and was pleased to hear the news. Today with a norte blowing in we were kiting when a group of about 30 angry people showed up. Fortunately the Harbor Captain arrived to diffuse the situation. Long story shortened: all though there is permission it has been rescinded for the moment because of the sociopolitical climate. Bummer
Don't be planning on kiting here yet. Will update.

It's a shame!! Holbox is an incredible kiteboarding destination, many tourist are coming just for kiteboarding.

If anyone is interested here is a link to the local state paper and articles regarding the conflict on Isla Holbox.
http://poresto.net/request_note_qroo.php if it doesn't direct you straight to articles on kiting on Holbox just type kite into the search. It is unfortunate that there is allot of mis-information being written. We understand there is to be another meeting on the 12 of March in Cancun. For kiters everywhere: Think before and during your kite sessions, one rude uncaring person can ruin it for all.

Thx for the update!
And sorry to hear the hassle is still going on.
Why where the 30 people angry? What are their arguments?
Can't you start an online petition, where we all can sign to show that there is worldwide interest to kite at that location?
Greets
Toby
