looking for my first surf board for kiting. would be at corpus christi mostly and carving up the flats around my lakes. surf in corpus is messy, small to medium waves and usually blowing 15-20knts on beach. i have a 9/6.5 wainman and weigh in at 150lbs/68kg

looking for something that can handle chop well and is fast. many of my friends are on the celeritas and they like it.

suggestions?

What I have done is bought cheap surfboards off craigslist to see if the size fits me. I would say for your weight a 5'8-6'0 thruster around 18"wide and not too thick. So the best thing about doing it this way is if you dont like the board resell on craigs list or maybe one of your kite buddies could try it out too. Surfboards are so dang expensive and thier are soo many sizes and shapes. I just got a 5'11 with 2 sets of fins for $45 off craigslist. :D If I dont like it of put a foot through it no biggie.

This one is way harder than giving kite advice. There are just literally a million options.

Small mushy wind driven waves... think shorter, wider, flater. Kinda like the celeritas.

I find a standard shortboard template too narrow and rockered to be as much fun in mush, but there is nothing better once the waves get to a decent size.

There are so many boards out there designed for small waves. I'd start with the advice above and go for a second hand/craigs list board designed for small waves to get your bearings and go from there.

I kite up in Galveston so I know your conditions we have the same. Flat wide fish type boards work well for our crappy surf. I have a wainman gambler 5'7" works great for our conditions here. A buddy does really well with the SS Dialer, and the guys from our shop ride the Celeritas.

Wide will help with planning and give more stability for learning to gybe.

I am 180 cm/5.9 and also looking to buy a new kite surf board, which will be used for chop/small waves. Considering Cabrinha and Fone boards, but wondering about the size and type. Is there a chart that i can use? Thx

Just nominating my current ride here, but I have had an RRD Domingo 5' 8" x 21" for the last year. It was my first kiting surfboard and I have found it to be pretty user friendly. On flat water I use it as my lightwind board and ride it strapless. On the rare occasion I get into some surf, it rides pretty good with straps. I like the large pad on it and the width makes it fairly stable. I am about 83 kg, so maybe the dimensions will be more helpful than the specific board recomendation. Good luck in your search.
