A lot of it is going to be down to finding some flat water to practice on, trim the board flat and getting a good stable stance.

i am a beginner at this as well and have had a few sessions on my lab70 but i can tell that for all out speed the course racer isn't waay faster than my monk. however, once i get it trimmed right it just flys over the chop on a reach, where the twin tip would have to cut through it and would be slower.

but definitley the boards are designed to be fast upwind so around a course you would destroy a twin tip. but if you are just out training with other riders who are on twin tips it will not appear to be that much faster. although i pretty sure these things carry more speed over distance than other boards. they seem to just keep accelerating with good clean air currents and proper board and kite trim. it is certainly not as easy as it looks!

Some twin tips are not all that slow.

There was one - the 2012 Underground Speed board, but the video wasn't as good as Alex's and I thought I might get away with it because Alex has a fin on the nose for riding it back to the start.

And a video from the North team which has some good slow motion of race board trim and control.

What type of board are you riding? What type of racing are you doing?

I would say the key for being fast is time on the water, and some good racebuddies to train with...
