twin fin directional board

Postby windfreak74 » Sun Mar 17, 2013 4:53 pm

Ive been meaning to build a directional for over a year.
i got everything i need to build it but cant make up my mind on how many fins.i have 2 big fins 22 and 2 15 cms
Can someone shead some light comparing a 2 fin twinzer type against a 3 fin thruster type?
i remember cabrinha did a trasport model with 2 fins and north had the first directional race in 2009 with 2 fins.
but there were to little reviews.
thanks,
Pedro

When you say "directional" I can read you are not talking about anything regarding waves

So assuming you are talking about a freerace board then, for early planing and some bump and jump fun :thumb:

Two fins will give an extremely lively and "light" board - but a bit too lively for performance and comfort sometimes.

That is the typical tradeoff IMO.

You can do "light" freestyle and jumping way better with two fins, but the board will very likely bounce more when driven fast, as it only has a "one point" C.O.E seen from the wind (and learned when riding these)

Just some of my experiences with different boards and different fin setups...
