Hi there,
would like to organize a mixed kite / leisure (nightlife, etc. for some of my friends...) trip on a boat in Greece, Cyclades islands, two weeks middle of August.

Any recommendation on companies, etc?

Thanks,

Vanni

Hi! am a kiter from Greece! I have traveled 2 times with windtrips.com.It was a wonderful experience.Last summer we booked a trip in Cyclades and the summer before that we have been in ionian sea. The captain Dimitris is a very good freestyle kiter and he knows the best spots. The Cyclades trip is adventurous on the other hand the Ionian is calmer.

Hi Vanni,

Cyclades is a top choice and I know it at first hand since I live there (Paros Island) every summer running a hotel (www.albatross.gr)

Kiting in Cyclades is guaranteed due to meltemi winds blowing from the north. I happened to meet the windtrip guys last summer kiting together in Punda Paros. Nice guys to hang out with lots of fun. They also seem to know what they do considering spot choosing.

Don’t know about Ionian trip but Cyclades one rules. Kite in Koufonisi and you ll remember what I am saying!!!

Hope to see you this summer in my home spot

Having been to Naxos 3 years in a row, for 1month and two 2week trips i can tell you the wind blows all the time. Of all those 60 days there i had 3-4 days without wind. Mid august some spots like Mirkli Vigla beach is crowded with windsurfers.

Been to Paros and Naxos this summer (again). In Paros with 9m, in Naxos always with 6m full powered.
Anyway there are plenty of amazing beaches not beaten by the wind to swim or snorkel
The water is just cristal clear with incredible colors.
IMO because of the wind force, boat sailing could be demanding in some case.

Totally agree on the sailing. I would not want to be on a small boat ( under 50ft) in those winds ( and it blows 24/7). its insane out there, not a family cruising scene. Perhaps if you only go downwind.

We got stuck on Naxos one year because the massive FERRY could not get into harbor due to winds. And got stuck on Mykonos ( spelling) and had to wait for huge ferry that could take the 35+ knot winds. The 100 man boat was not gonna make it.

Lots of good advices, thanks to all.

Regarding the wind strenght/boat issue, i'm quite familiar with it, i've sailed around cyclades for several years in summer, but i wasn't kiteboarding yet.

I like a lot the boat option as it allows a lot of flexibility, gives you more choice of spots, less crowd, etc.

When i was learning i went to Paros, at Pounda, and from what i remember judging now with experience it was quite a good spot, not too much crowded, while Mikri Vigla looks to me like a super packed spot, and i tend to avoid those spots as it's almost a 100% chance of messing lines with someone....

I'm still not clear on how to rig on a rather small boat in case, but i guess more than someone have already figured that out

Any more info/updates, i'm here, thanks a lot to all.

Vanni
