Do you wear glasses

Postby dejavu » Fri Apr 05, 2013 10:20 pm

Do you wear prescription glasses? What do you wear when you kite?

I used to just wear my sunnies that were prescription until they went for a swim on a fall. I then bought some script goggles with band and they seem to be ok now but I miss the sunnies. What do you wear?

I have a pair of prescription surf shades ( http://surfshadesusa.com/ ) that I sometimes wear. They tend to fog a lot though and my eyes are such that I can get by without glasses.

I also chose yellow polarized lenses because where I kite (Canada) often I'll be out in low light situations and the yellow work wonders in low light. Unfortunately the yellow don't help any with the bright sun (aside from the UV protection).

They cost $300 but I was able to expense $200 of that. I don't think I'd spend $300 on them but for $100 they are nice to have. I also use them for other sports than just kite or SUP, they work just fine on land.

My eye-doc has been pushing Wiley X glasses. He says he can put prescription lenses in pretty much all their models.. anyone ever try em? http://www.wileyx.com/FISHING/index.aspx

I wear prescription Sea Specs under a helmet, or disposable contacts with nonprescription Sea Specs. I never have any fog and they shed spray and rain. I've crashed hard and never had them come off.

It took me a few years to find the right eyewear and it wasn't cheap but it was well with it for my bad vision.

I wear daily lenses. Works fine with sunglasses.

My missus needs glasses, blind as a bat and we got Seaspecs for her. Got the local dealer to look into it, all we had to do was send her perscription details and what colour frame she wanted, voila, happy ever after. She did the contact thing but would sometimes loose one or both so the Seaspecs are a perfect solution, 4 years later still loving them.

cheers,

Robbie :D

Same as Toby...one day lenses+sports sunglasses (cycling type, more ergonomic).

I build my own eyeglasses (licensed optician)
Daytime at work progressive lenses (multifocals with distance / midrange / near power)
Playtime contact lenses that i put in while still in my car just to go kitesurfing
Last me a month (15 to 20 days of kiting / avg. 1 to 2 hr session) Acuvue Oasys Astigmatism

Riding strapped surfboard with late afternoon sessions with polarized polycarbonate brown lenses
Brown is more high definition than grey and works best for me and the time of day i ride

Full wrap 9 base frame cinched to back of head with croakie + leashed to top back of harness

If during major crash the croakie fails and they fly off my head they remain secure on short leash

I just reach over at arm's length and fish them out of the water and back over my eyes

In all the years (14) that i have been using my system and i never lost a single pair of shades

Nearsighted kiters/kitesurfers go with soft type contacts as they stay easy to use and maintain
